"Wealth Inequality in America: Its worse than you think" - Fortune

This article indicates its a forty year trend, so maybe its not as political as some might try to make it. Which begs the question why i would post it on the poli board.
it may not be caused by any one political philosophy, but the solution, if there is to be one, will almost certainly have to come through politics.

I don't think is true so long as standard of living continues to increase for the rest of us at roughly the same pace as the 1%.

Wealth Inequality
I don't make as much money as some, but i also don't think i deserve special treatment because i'm not as rich as some people.
The inherit problem with wealth inequality, is those that think they are unequal, bitch about it more instead of earning money for themselves. I have no pity for whiners. You don't like your current state in life? Only you can change it. Daddy government can't make you rich. But it definitely can demotivate you from ever providing for yourself or your family.
Wealth Inequality = Another meaningless liberal bitch fest

What if higher inequality in advanced economies and a higher standard of living for the lower and middle classes were caused by the same thing? Is rising inequality necessarily a problem then?

And everyone knows who is targeted with this wealth inequality meme. White men. I don't see any liberal pussies bitching about how much money Kobe Bryant makes, and why professional sports or movie stars aren't targeted for more taxation or penalties. But if some business owner makes a dime, the left demands they have it simply for the fact that they were too chicken shite to earn a living for themselves.

This is an age old problem, and it has an age old response.
There is only one of two ways to fix the problem -
Bring the top down or the bottom up. The former is socialism/communism, and the latter is capitalism. I know which one I would pick every day of the week.

Their idea of evidence is quoting a historian. Sorry, I need a little more than that.
Now if mobility has decreased (and I think I read that it has somewhere) that, to me, is a bigger problem.

frickIN CHRIST. This is the pre-election click bait of the centruy.
Wealth Inequality isn't bad in of it's self. It's HOW it is created that determines that.
Political policies are marginal, FED policies are what have created this gap and, imho, yes this wealth gap is bad...not because wealth gaps are bad but because of how this one has been created.

I read the article and it doesn't address the basic question... Why is inequality bad?
If I make 10M a year what am I going to do with my riches? Only two choices: Spend it (good). Invest it (good). Both choices help the population at large.
The only scenarios where I can think that inequality is bad is in totalitarian states. North Korea in 1950 is poor. South Korea in 1950 is poor but has some crops. North Korea invades.
Same can be said with more developed states that are totalitarian. Resource wars. But in a nation like the US where the poor live like rich people in 3rd world countries there is no negative impact from inequality.

The negative impact is that humans are naturally jealous. So you encourage class warfare, buy off votes with union kickbacks and entitlements, and set yourself up as the plutocrats.

Good point. So here is a hypothetical for the board.
Choice A: The 10th percentile of income earners in this society make $200K a year. The 90th percentile of income earners make $20K a year.
Choice B: The 10th percentile of income earners in this society make 500K a year. The 90th percentile of income earners make $30K a year.
Which society would you prefer? A or B?

Inequality is not bad in a society if A. all people have an equal opportunity to better themselves and B. we as a society agree that your basic needs should be a concern for all society i.e. you are not going hungry and you have a place to live and access to education and health care.

Conservatives need to fear rising income inequality because the great socialist revolutions in Russia and China came about due to great income inequality.
As a socialist I am torn about the rising income inequality. Short-term many people suffer but long-term it sets the conditions for revolution.
