some even preferred the avengers.
Still do.
Enjoyed it more when I saw it at the theater (saw both on opening night) and have enjoyed 2nd and 3rd viewings of it more than TDKR.
I like both a lot. But the Avengers is one of the best times I have had at the theater in a long time and one of my favorites to rewatch (I done so twice now).

shite, what about the fact that a nuke blowing up next to a major metropolitan city is supposed to be viewed as a happy ending?
like uhh... hey guys, there's this thing called fallout...

Bane for example was great, until he turned out to be a meaningless pawn
why do people feel this way? I've never understood this argument. Darth Vader turned out to be second in command as well, was he a meaningless pawn to you?
Besides, if you followed the making of the film, there was no doubt that Talia was going to be in it. I figured she was the one in charge, so I was not surprised by it.

Am I the only one in this thread who thinks TDKR and The Avengers were both good movies and very enjoyable to watch?
I consider them both above average, solid movies with of course the obvious flaws everybody has pointed out.

If Darth got killed by an Ewok that showed up out of the blue on a speeder then yea, he would have ultimately been a meaningless pawn.
But he redeems himself and kills Palpatine which makes him more than a simple lackey like Bane ended up being.

He throws Palpatine down that shaft and the dude explodes with force energy.
How can you say Vader didn't kill anyone?

First, you know he's taking orders from A New Hope. There's no "reveal."
Second, that's a bad comparison, the prophecy is about Anakin, and as a weak a film as RotJ may be, it aligns with Anakin being the difference in the end. He doesn't end up a pawn, he ends up a savior of the Galaxy.
Big difference.

true true
too bad the Jedi didnt realize they were part of the problem that needed balancing

at the end he kills someone in a self sacrificing manner, not that I'm opposed to that, but he never murders anyone
he does it plenty in the first two
star wars - almost kills some officer talking shite about the force, chokes a rebel officer to death with his bare hands, cuts down obi wan
empire - chokes about a gazillion officers for the slightest mistakes
jedi - nothing

I dont really see why him not killing the shite out of a random officer in Jedi is an issue.
Hell, he was clearly conflicted about his role once he comes in contact with Luke. The first time Darth gets him alone in Empire he practically begs Luke to join him and refuses to take a kill shot even though he could have easily done so. One could easily surmise that interacting with his son softened him greatly.

in empire he was hunting those motherfrickers down son.
not until the throne room scenes does he do anything...he's just not the evil presence he was in empire. like it or love it, but surely you're not going to tell me that isn't the least bit odd?

I thought TDKR tied very well into the Nolan's Batman universe. Apart from some of my bias negative opinions about John Blake, the movie was well done but couldn't match the hype after TDK.
Avengers is not a really even a movie, but more of a really kick-arse extended Saturday morning cartoon designed to sell merchandise. I enjoy it, but I can completely turn off my brain as well.

Well the Emperor is there and he's clearly conflicted between him and Luke.

fair enough, but I still don't understand why being second in command is so bad? I had my issues with DKR, but Bane wasn't one of them. I thought Hardy was an awesome Bane.
Posted on 10/29/14 at 4:30 pm to craigbiggio
yeah, and that's when he becomes a presence in the movie again, before that they just have him doing nothing...not trying to achieve any goal.
"he will come to you"
so just go sit around and yo kid just be showing up
it's not really a huge problem with jedi, in fact the throne room scenes are the only good thing about the movie and they're very good, but I just think it's strange...especially given how evil he is...you'd think he'd have it up to here with someone. fricking choke an ewok to relieve some stress

it was a feat because years of being the batman has taken a toll on his body, and he recently was beaten within an inch of his life and never received proper medical care
you're right he didn't, and yet he made a leap that no other man in the pit could (save a child?!?) and then beat down a monster like bane on the rematch?
obviously i agree RE: the cops in the sewers, that whole bit was weird on the first viewing and worse on additional viewings.

when I talked about the tenacity and drive, I was talking about talia. bruce wayne struggled because he was injured and the stuff about not being afraid, whatever.
talia was just a vengeful and angry child determined to make it...it's impressive that she made it, not just bruce (and it is less impressive she made it) we're talking about a fricking jump, a dangerous one...she didn't fricking fly into the sky

yeah, we are talking about a jump and the problem with the whole device was it was a physical barrier in the middle of what fancies itself a gritty, more realistic, tale of a superhero with human capabilities that he pushes to the limits. i'm glad if it rang true to you and you were able to enjoy the metaphor for what it was probably intended. i was not able to do the same when i thought about what that must have looked like if a child made the leap.
