Kid doesn't have the physical tools needed to become an elite QB and the worst part is he knows it. And it makes him hesitant to try anything even remotely risky.
All this is false. I've seen plenty elite college QBs, and they didn't need a rocket launcher to be elite. He has tried risky throws, but I'd rather him not. I'd rather him take off for extra yardage if he feels he can't make that tight window. He has all the tools necessary to be a top QB in college, he just has to learn from his mistakes, practice hard everyday to get better, stay in the film room, and most importantly, soak up everything he can from Cam.
The guy is a true sophomore getting his first starts in the toughest division in the toughest conference of the college football world. It's going to take time and like I said, the light could easily come on against Ole Miss or Alabama. LSU fans are too dismissive of young players.

So Ole Miss is the best past rush and the best run defense. I guess we'll be lucky to have positive yardage in this game.
If you've watched them play, their DTs are extremely good and we've struggled in the middle of our OL. We'll have positive yards, but this is going to be the same type of defense we saw against Miss St.

AJ threw two interceptions in five minutes against New Mexico fricking state and got pulled from the game. Horrible horrible comparison. While met struggled early on certainly he was never as bad as Jennings. Also, at least met showed some progress and improvement and as others have said flashes of brilliance throughout the year. AJ seems to be getting worse as the season progresses.

No way in hell you actually believe that
I can't believe that Dural is better than OBJ was in 2012?
How can you not?

You do realize that Mett played under a different OC his first year, right?
Great post, man. Really insightful.

We did have Dural in 2012. Also:
Took a redshirt after a knee injury.

So, your post makes no sense whatsoever.
They got better their junior years. Look at the numbers from 2012.
2014 Dural> 2012 Jarvis or 2012 OBJ

Also if Mett had a WR like Dural in 2012 he would have gone off.
2012 LSU wide receiver #3
2012 LSU wide receiver #80

58.2 by my calcs.
48 yard pass.. 33 yards from far hash to sideline
48 squared + 33 squared = 58.2 squared
Hey, man, don't be coming in here with that liberal media bias math and science bullshite...

Haven't you heard? The Jets are Mett's team now...

Lol wut? He's been up and down, no question, but he looks to be improving with the short/intermediate range passes.
His improvement tracks the improvement in the OL play. I wonder why that is?

Two people already worked the math for you and this still wasn't true.
Almost every college QB can make that throw. Which was under 60 yards. 65-70 yards is where a QB has an elite arm.

its a little over 60

Neither were the deep threat that Dural is. Dural is averaging 25+ yards a catch. thats more than either Jarvis or OBJ averaged at LSU.
I am not saying Dural is better, but having a deep threat like Dural would have been huge in 2012.
I think OBJ is overaed as far as being a deep threat goes. he is fast, and hell go up and grab a ball, but he doesn't get anywhere near the separation you see with Dural or even what we would see with Rueben Randle.

Apples and oranges.
1. Mett's first year starting was under Studrawa. AJ's first year starting is under Cam.
2. Mett's got significantly (significantly) more arm strength and throwing ability than AJ.

Yeah I wish we had something other than two future all pros on the outside.....

Compare him to JJ long before comparing him to Mett...
That brings up a few good questions. Was JJ really THAT bad? Or better yet, was Mettenberger really THAT good? If you compare Jefferson's best season (09) and Mettenberger's best season (13) in games that really mattered (i.e. not against the rent-a-win opponents) the stats might surprise you.
2009 Jefferson (excluding games against ULL, Tulane, La.Tech and PSU)
142 - 230 62% 182 YPG 12 TDs 4 INTs
2013 Mettenberger (excluding games against UAB, Kent St. and Furman)
147 - 235 63% 245 YPG 11 TDs 6 INTs.
In the games that mattered, Jefferson and Mettenberger were essentially equal. The only noticeable difference is that ZM avg. roughly 60 more yards passing per game. The completion % though is basically the same, and Jefferson threw for more TDs and less INTs.
