I wonder how he got to Bellevue. It's at the opposite end of the island in relation to his apartment. Not mention he lived only 20 blocks from Columbia New York-Presbyterian.

In general, people are selfish and TOO optimistic about their own health. It should not be left to themselves to decide. If you choose (or get sent) into the 'hot zone'....compulsory quarantine. No choice, no "self isolation".
And feeling sluggish is a definite precursor to a major flu / fever... he should have known better.

He should have known better and applied common sense. He was isolating himself from work and others, why the frick would you go out then especially if you are not feeling 100%. However you can not regulate and legislate common fricking sense. There is no realistic solution other than use of common sense to isolate someone. WTF are you going to do have a police officer siting outside the door of anyone from west africa. There is an average of 75 passengers a day from the ebola countries coming into JFK alone everyday. Plus the fact that is completely unamerican.

True but it's one of several designated Ebola centers. There were a couple much closer to his apartment. Unless Bellevue trumps them all which I didn't think it did.

The extreme right wing will eat this up.

Come on man! We have been fortunate so far. The nurse flies up north? Another takes a cruise? Now this dumbass? These are medical professionals and they act like they don't know any better.

This doc should be shot in the face for stupidity.... So youre less than two weeks back from helping Ebola patients, you begin feeling sluggish and ill, albeit without a major fever
Are we saying that CDC Policy is not intelligent?
Remember, ebola is extremely hard to transmit.
Remember, one of the world's foremost experts said he'd be happy to ride the subway next to an Ebola patient.
Remember, NCTigah telling people here the above were understatements, and in fact they were stupid in that regard?
So which is it? . . . are you a panicking, overreacting, dumbass nitwit?
Or does the CDC non-quarantine policy for Ebola-country travelers suck?

Or are you panicking again?
Doctors without borders have a protocol for their doctors to follow. He followed it. No one will get Ebola from bowling with him. If you can catch Ebola that easily, Dallas would be burning by now.

There are a number of hospitals in the city that have the facilities and training.
Since our dumbass CDC Director made the dumbass statement that "any facility in the country capable of caring for infectious disease was capable of caring for Ebola," fortunately the CDC has backtracked.
About 20 facilities in the country were initially designated as "Ebola Centers". Apparently that list has expanded over the past week. NY officials now say there are eight designated centers in NY state.
Although CDC has not released the complete list of the selected facilities. Of interest, there are apparently just four U.S. hospitals with top-level biocontainment facilities, and three of them have already treated Ebola cases. The fourth is in Missoula, Montana. Presumably Bellevue was chosen as an "Ebola Center" d/t its long history of TB treatment and familiarity.
