Didn't know the game started at halftime

Was there as a 5th year senior, fun days!
Could this years team be similar; gave the ball to Charlie 70%, lost to UGA, Gumps, and Moo St then Missou in Liberty Bowl for 8-4 season?
I say we W the bowl end 9-4!

quote:Well, if the lower bowl wasnt full either was that upper. So im guessing 85% of 78k for a start of the game attendance of 66,300. If thats what shows up Saturday this place will full on melt Just shows every generation is the same. We are all young punks that turn into get off your lawns in life

Charles Alexander was pretty good

"Charles Alexander was pretty good"
Great RB and a true workhorse.
Also, our TE coach had pretty good arm.

There wasn't a lot of quality football at LSU between about 1974 and 1981. That's why we lost to Mississippi St. and Tulane so much around that time.
Alexander does seem like he was awesome though. I can't imagine how bad the record would have been without him.

Back then, there were only two or three total games televised in the country. The game originally scheduled to be played at night was moved to a day game on like the Tuesday before, which screwed up a lot of peoples' plans. Hence the empty seats.

LSU playing on television was a luxury. It was all about radio in those days. Alexander was a legit Heisman contender finishing 5th his SR year.

Looks like CLM is carrying on the "Hat" tradition...Did you see that ole Cholly Mac was sporting???
Stadium looked pretty full during the game, halftime the East side looked empty, everyone was getting their drinks refilled and smoking...
Still a Great Place for football game...Hopefully, some of that ole October night time magic shows up for the Tigers!!!

the empty seats at the beginning are all in the student section

Great game. I had a field pass from a friend in the media. I am standing near the goal line in a white shirt during Alexander's reverse pass touchdown.

I remember that game like it was yesterday. Was a Soph that year.
The empty seats at the beginning of the game were definitely in the North End Zone Student Section. Back then, the pledges of the Fraternities had to get to the stadium to claim and save seats for all the actives and their dates who fashionably showed up at kickoff.

Man-I worshipped Charles Alexander at that time, as I was in grade school. I remember that TD pass to him clearly. The year before that we played Ole Miss in Jackson. My Pops had a Cessna 172 and we flew to the Jackson airport that morning on a lark, hopped out, made our way to the stadium and saw a great game. Ole Miss was up 21-0 at halftime. LSU won 28-21.Loved that era-76-79, those teams were so talented (especially DBU-Soul Patrol) and fun.

"and now....what's more appropriate than Dixie?"
on national TV no less.
it's interesting that what could be said now would be grounds for immediate firing now.
not passing a judgment either way. just observing the drastic change in societal norms. it's fascinating.
