I'm headed to Jackson this weekend and thinking about making a detour to check this place out. Ive heard good things about it. Is it worth the extra time on the road? Anything I should order or know? Thanks

Some of the best Q I've ever had. Some think the sauce is too sweet but I never thought it was. I like their pork ribs and baked beans. Get a slice of their pie for dessert or for the road

New Orleans to Jackson thru Hattiesburg better be some damn fine Q. I will make a ride over myself if it lives up to its billing.

It doesn't add on nearly as much time as you'd think but it's still a detour. Might as well do it.

I thought it was OK but it didnt blow me away. Service sucks, they'll get to you when they get to you. Ribs were good, but I've had better

You mean the red colored karo syrup?

Leatha's is everything they say (good) Leatha died last year, but the family has made no changes and so it remains the same as it was, which is a good thing.

I've stopped there a couple of times, the sauce is extremely sweet, they like it that way, not my cup of Karo.
I prefer Strick's in Hattiesburg, it's always crowded for a reason. Staff is very nice, I stay away from the buffet, which is just country cooking, and order at the line.

that is one hell of a detour, like a 2 hour detour if you are coming from baton rouge. It's not worth a 2 hour detour. But I will tell you there is a new BBQ place in Jackson that I like called Pig & Pint that you should try. It's in the Fondren neighborhood.

The only way to eat at Leatha's is to order the sauce on the side. Way to sweet.
Back in the day, they had beef BBQ that was excellent. I think they called it beef ribs, but it was more of a roast (no bone). Took it off the menu b/c beef got "too expensive." If they happen to have the beef BBQ, get it.

The old place in foxworth MS was incredible. New place, not so much.

It's probably my favorite BBQ joint, much better than anything I've had in Memphis. I've never had Texas 'cue, though.

I haven't been in 10 years or so, but when I lived in Brandon, we used to go down all the time and play golf at Canebrake and then go eat at Leathas. Was always a joy. I knew it was gonna be good when instead of a napkin they gave you a dish towel. It was awesome back then when Leatha's son Larry was still around. He would go around singing to everyone. Its tough to beat eating her ribs and listening to Larry sing Billy Jean Mama Leatha was always so nice and gave great hugs as you left.

I have to agree with this one...it wasn't ever the same after it moved. That old crazy repurposed boiler/smoker with the revolving meat racks did something special...whatever was cooking up top dripped down onto the lower racks, basting everything along the way.
