From the 35 it made a bit of sense. From the 20, none.
You again prove that you are not the brightest of the Rantards.
When kicking off from the 35, Domingue routinely puts the ball out of the end zone, therefore negating any chance for Kentucky to get a return.
When kicking off from the 20, there is no way Domingue kicks the ball for a touchback, thereby giving Kentucky a chance to set up a return.
By squibbing the kick, you give the other team much less chance to set up a return...they are likely to just field the ball, get minimal yardage, and run the clock out.
The only dangerous thing to do was to do a full kickoff and risk them running all the way back. That was the only way they could hurt us with that little time left on the clock.
Understand???

It was a stroke of genius, worked just like it was drawn up.
I think it was absolutely the right thing to do...I just think Domingue didn't kick it like he was supposed to...it needed to go past Kentucky's front line, which it almost did not do.

Why would we do such a thing?
Let's do this Socratically. If we had kicked off downfield normally (from the 20 yard line), where do you think KY would have fielded it? Hint: a kick from the 35 typically goes to between the goal line and the back line. Compare the likelihood of a long return (say to the 50) of a kick fielded by the best returner on their team at the 15 to the likelihood of a long return of a squib kick by a player other than a return specialist. Which is likelier to prevent KY from getting into field goal position in the last 40 seconds?

It was a great decision, poor execution, that ended being a windfall for the Tigers and we are actually having a discussion about it being a negative thing...
Only on the Rant...

I love when posters come into a thread and start talking sense then the OP suddenly disappears, unable to defend his craptastic position.

I understand you're a moron.
One would expect a kickoff from the 20 to land about the 10 to 15... after a 20 or 25 yard return Kentucky's still on their side of the field.
With the squib from the 20 there's a significant chance the ball never reaches the 50 to begin with.

What you clowns fail to realize is that if UK had simply picked the ball up they would have had the ball at the 45 yard line with 50 seconds left. I'd bet my house that they wouldn't have simply "ran out the clock" there.
While a squib kick minimizes the chance of a huge return, it gives the receiving team good field position. See Auburn squibbing to LSU in 2005.

You summarized perfectly what it took me about 7 sentences to say.

To waste time in a blowout dummy.

This compares with the last 25 seconds of the 2010 Tennessee debacle. UK bailed LSU out of a bad decision.

Squibs usually end up on the receiving team's 35 to 40 or so. Anything historically better and EVERY kickoff would be squibbed.
Add 15 yards to that and the opponent starts at midfield or better, with 44 seconds to get into field goal range.

What do you guys mean by poor execution? Squib picks, by design, aren't meant to travel to the deep guys. When kicking from your own 20, you are handing the ball to the other team near midfield.

I do think domingue just screwed up the kick. But it worked. Kentucky player got blasted by stoops. Sure he said fall on the fricking ball. Dude just let it bounce rt by him.

I am just glad some of you people aren't the actual coach of the team.

Do you really think that the clock starts when the kicker kicks the ball?

Actually, it was a criticism veiled as a question.
I know full well why Les did it. Just as with the toss dive, his reasoning is not always logical.
