What is the OB opinion on Black Cloud shells? Waste of money or worth it? Does is shoot any different than the cheaper shells?

Federal blue 3 inch 1 1/4 # 3s' . $ 100 a case .

Expensive
Over-rated in terms of knock down capacity.
Very dirty. Gun looks like it's coated in motor oil after hunting with them.
Don't pattern well (at least out of my gun).
Did I mention too expensive?
Kent Fasteel all day every day.

How is this an appropriate response?

You have to watch which type of choke you shoot it out of as well. Either your normal tubes(factory) or an actual black cloud choke tube. It's premise is letting the BBs come out of the barrel with the lease amount of distortion as possible. If you use a tube that does that (patternmaster, briley etc) but isn't a black cloud tube then you are basically fricking your pattern b/c you are messing with the wad.

This all day long. I used to shoot 3" 1-3/8 #1 in rice fields but switched to #2 when #1 became impossible to find. I don't like Black Cloud and much prefer either Winchester Drylok or Hevishot.

I love dirty talk on the OB.

I had similar experience with them being very dirty. Don't clean my gun until after the season and after shooting BC's that year my gun looked like it had been years since I last broke it down.
I did make some longer than average shots with it, but I've switched over to heavy metal due to the cleaning issue. Also, you do need to consider choke for reasons already stated. They may be a good cripple load.

Obviously you haven't used both shells . Federals' are better shells ,have a better pattern , and are about half of the black cloud price .Kinda makes a difference if you shoot 4 cases a year .

Aren't black cloud made by federal?

Black cloud shells have bb's that are belted.
It is claimed that this gives them more knockdown power.
I call bullshite.
Learn how to shoot, which takes practice, and worry about the bb on top the end of your barrel. Screw in a modified choke. Pattern your gun. You will be all good.

They dont pattern worth a damn in my Benelli. They pattern great in my Browning BPS. Go figure. They are deadly in my BPS.

like others in here have said I shoot a less expensive shell when I was shooting a couple of cases a season...when on a special hunt I rather the 3 1/2" Blind Sides they and the Black Clouds pattern fine in my SX3 but the Blind Side hits the birds harder out of my gun with MOD choke...since the kids get me gift certificates for bday and christmas I buy a few boxes of Blind Sides...
since you asked...

Shot some last weekend. Made my gun look like it was sitting in a coal plant for a week. I ain't good enough to speak to the pattern stuff but I know they are messy as hell.

Dirty, but good stuff.
I just wash my gun inside with WD-40 to get all the gunk out.
I think they shoot very good. I made some pretty long shots with BC.
