How the hell is that a straw man? It was his entire argument for like two pages.
I didn't come in this thread raising any issue that wasn't purely legal.

I never said religion was protected from subpoena even in relevant cases because of some privacy clause.
I never said that. You can re-read the thread if you like.

Appears someone realized they fricked up...
Of course, there's this...
Of course, there's this...
quote:
The city’s statement added that the subpoenas were issued by “pro bono attorneys helping the city prepare for the trial regarding the petition to repeal the new Houston Equal Rights Ordinance” and “Neither the mayor nor City Attorney David Feldman were aware the subpoenas had been issued until [Tuesday].”

Don't you just love it when Public Officials use the power of the office to intimidate and silence the opposition?
Well at least the IRS hasn't done anything like that.
Thank God!

Cruz will be speaking at 11:25 from First Baptist Houston if anyone in the Houston area is interested.
I'd attend if I weren't in BR

I'd like a lawyer to weigh in on this quote. Does this mean a judge signed an order to issue the subpoenas that went out?

A separate lawyer is working this case pro bono. So they're pretending he drew up the subpoena and they had no idea of the language in it even though the city attorney defended the subpoena for sermons the same day he said he only recently saw it.

Yes...a subpoena duces tecum...it was likely coupled with a deposition.

so free speech now is only private speech. If I'm a pastor my speech can now be regulated by the government because I'm speaking from the pulpit? Political speech or not, the Government shouldn't regulate what pastors can say from the pulpit.
Personally I hope these pastors have the courage to stand up and preach for what they believe in, and be willing to pay hefty fines, or even spend time in jail. Show the government they have no control over us.

They're not attempting to regulate what the pastors preach. Do you even know what this case is about?
