As a taxpayer, would you be willing to increase police pay?

If they:

A) All wore cameras on their person at all times while on duty that uplinks to an off-site server and mainframe.

B) Employment was at-will and not subject to typical blue line protections put into place to protect rouge cops.

I think a small town or two should test this out, I think it could be a sweeping reform program that could be employed all throughout the country.

I don't even know if police would go for it.

Just a thought on a solution rather than just harping how terrible police are all the time.

Good luck getting something like that approved by the union.

We need to end automatic retirement after 20 years of service with full benefits for life.

Obviously that would have to be negotiated.

But I was thinking $75,000

in the '70's San Jose, CA required cops to have a masters because the local college kept churning out CJ majors, crime actually went up because the cops were so perceptive

This is in the test phase now in Baton Rouge. There was an interview the other day on a talk radio station with brpd being for it. They feel it will take the he said she said out of testimony.

Brpd has the civil service protection. It's a double edged sword because it protects the po po from political shite but is a breeding ground for extreme waste. I'd love to see the sherif take over law enforcement for the entire parish, but my brpd bud is scared to death of that. He says the sherif can bounce a deputy down to jail house guard on a whim. I think he and his prolly should suck it up for the good of the parish, but I don't see a vote coming.

I'd be ok with a pay increase bc maybe better people would be attracted. But cameras or at least dashboard cameras are long overdue.

Dashboard cameras are pretty standard across the board.

Hell no.

What the hell do they do with all the money they raise from, inspection violations, dui's, and red light tickets?

With the sense of urgency they have to write tickets it makes you think that they are paid on commission.

Get rid of 250k higher-up salaries like the NOPD chief had and you could pay them more.

They get overtime for going to court, that's patirally why they write so many tickets. So basically they do get a commission.

Yes, but:

We need less police in this country, Every podunk, numbnutted, hillbilly burg, body of water, man made structure, and mound of dirt has its own overpaid, overfed, lightly-trained police force. Get rid of at least 10-20% of these unnecessary police forces and "police" and keep the cream of the crop. Pay these men and women well and you will attract the best of the best.

Facts.

Sometimes they hurt feelings.

The issue is the blue line, and lack of accountability due to union protections.

I don't understand the want for sheriff to control everything. It's a completely political position, I thought the ot would be against more politics interjected into their lives
