Stud Vs. Grimes..coaching differences

Do these coaches have different coaching philosophies? Could that be contributing the issues with our OL?
Aren't the majority of these kids Stud's recruits? I am not saying this is an excuse, by any means. Just wondering if it may have something to do with it.

It's very tuff to block when the defense knows the play.

The o-line kept blocking for good yardage on 1st down for at least the first half. We couldn't do anything on 2nd & short or 3rd & short. Either a false start, one fumble, or an overthrown ball would occur.
The o-line also did a good job in pass protection throughout most of the 1st 3 quarters. We just couldn't complete a pass.

I am not in BR ...but I am told that the Off Line scheme has totally changed ... maybe some BR guys can say
..if it was to be the best OL in the country, or thereof , why implement the change

We went to a zone blocking scheme. It was quite evident during Miss St and Auburn. Some guys were blocking correctly and others took the wrong assignment. When that happens it spells disaster.

This is such BS. If you watch the Oline this year, guys get beat in 1 on 1 situations all the time. Its not just the guys getting double teamed, its people getting straight up whipped and beaten off the ball.

It's a combo of not adapting to Grime's scheme and the D knowing exactly what we are about to do. I'm not jumping on the fire Grimes wagon, but I do think he needs to get his guys in for the line to play well.

Why did we hire a guy whose specialty is zone blocking when we don't run a spread offense?

Then on pass plays they should be super surprised and really well blocked, right?
NOPE
They Oline is the problem. They are sucking hard.

+1 and the OTHER style was working...we were going to be one of the best

Exactly, that stupid run up the gut on 3rd & 8 should have gone for 6 cause no one knows its coming!
The Oline is monumentally disappointing this year. Whether it is scheme or effort (frankly I think its both), they are not playing well at all.

The running game is a lot easier to block when you have a rocket arm like Mettenberger back in the pocket keeping them from stacking the box.

I guess it shouldn't, but it always amazes me how many people think that having a "rocket arm" is the ONLY requirement for being a great QB. Hell, if that were the case Uncle Rico would have led his team to state. He could throw the ball a quarter-mile!!!
From all indications Harris has a "rocket arm". However, defenses aren't too worried about that when the ball is sailing 3 feet over the intended receiver's head. Until LSU shows any ability to complete passes on a consistent basis, teams aren't going to respect the passing game. shite, Mettenberger had that rocket arm in 2012, yet teams continued to stack the box because he could not complete a deep ball to save his life, and LSU had zero interest in throwing anything inside the hashes or in the 7-15 yard range. It was basically boom or bust except for the second half against Bama which "coincidentally" was Mettenberger's best game.

Yes, having a solid working running game helps the passing...
but
have we almost totally forgotten short, mid range passes...how bout quick slants..
have I missed them ?

Or throwing to the TE up the seam. Why would a TE want to come here?

Not a bad thought. I've been GROSSLY disappointed in our line play, but I'm willing to give Grimes a pass this year. I'd imagine the players have developed either bad habits or just haven't really been taught proper technique at all under Stud the last few years. But who really knows?

4 of these guys did just fine running the toss dive with Hill last year out of a stacked I. Something is wrong beyond the Xs and Os.

Those plays were there, qb has to make them. Cam cant throw the ball for them.
