Click on a trend to see percentage growth.
"The graph reveals a striking pattern. After adjusting for inflation, income was basically flat for households in the bottom half of the economic ladder. Right around the middle, income starts to pick up — and the higher you go up the income ladder, the more income growth you see.
Income grew 9 percent for households at the 60th percentile, 22 percent for those at the 80th percentile and 36 percent for those at the 95th percentile. (Update: To be clear, as we reported earlier this year, many households move up and down the income ladder over time.) Gains were even larger for those at the very top, but the census data we're using in this graph make it hard to track incomes for the top 1 percent."

This is exactly what the Republicans are aiming for - except more of it.

it needs to be addressed as a country. The poor will be happy with a little more, but if we don't keep them happy they can take everything.

But ....according to TD, there is no such thing as income inequality.

I've always hated this line of thinking.

This is exactly what it looks like right before they do it.

You'll really hate it when 75% of voters decide to affect change.
(Hint: the shift will be to the left)

Who would the poor go after?
Posted on 10/3/14 at 12:26 pm to AUbused
not suprised. Remember the good-ole days when one income would support a household? Back then the top 1% didnt get 95% of the earnings increases.

Yeah...the food stamps, housing, education, phones... they are so fricking deprived by the taxpayers of this country.

the upper middle class. those with enough capital (10M+) are completely mobile.
Those with wealth less than that are a lot less mobile, but they could still get out.
its the people that "seem" rich to others, the ones that drive luxury cars, live in 500k houses, take nice vacations.
They will not have enough mobility to get out themselves and assets out of the country during a transition like this (think argentina), and will become commoners.
Its a very real scenario, but its pretty simple to protect yourself if you are aware.

welfare won't fix their problems. what they need is good jobs.
I know its not a popular thought here, but I firmly believe most people would like to make a good living and support their family. They turn to welfare b.c that isn't a reality without skillz these days.

Unfortunately for you its been proven true over and over in history. Crime, violence, and often revolt stem from a people who have no hope for the future. It is in the best interest of a population to maintain a minimal acceptable standard of living for the benefit of society as a whole. Im not saying that current US poverty profiles don't meet that standard....just saying there is a line.
