The often predicted demise of LSU...it's BS

Year after year, the talking heads and our opponents' fanbases predict the demise of LSU, and year after year, LSU - with talent and coaching, proves the CFB intelligentsia wrong.
I trust our coaches - frankly our excellent assistant coaches - to correct bad technique, identify the best players and put us in a position to win. They failed in that regard against MS State - they know this. The skins are on the wall, they will get us pointed in the right direction. LSU is not going anywhere.
At the end of the season, there are going to be several teams capable of winning a championship, but with 2 or 3 losses, because the SECW is so stout this year. I'm stoked about it and I'm excited to see it play out. This weekend will be epic can potentially cataclismic.
After the battle for the SECW, the SECCG and the CFB Playoff will pale in competitive comparison.

LSU is poised for greatness in 2015 and 2016, but I will root like hell for every game in 2014.

Not unless there is some serious improvement on both lines between now and then.

Our lines have been using poor technique. I'm going the optimist route and saying that our coaches see this and are going to correct it. The athletes are there, they just need to play to our scheme and coaching.

It really seems like Miles strategy is to play football like Muhammed Ali boxes... letting himself get cornered, playing rope-a-dope. The other team keeps lashing out and seems to be scoring, but very rarely can they finish LSU under Miles; most teams get frustrated, run out of steam, then LSU knocks them out.

not if 8 starters leave for the draft early every year

Well, if this team finishes 5th or 6th in the division, the decline could be there. The rest of the SEC has caught up and looks to be passing LSU by. Guys like Sumlin put QB after QB in his system and they continue to put up 300-400 yard passing games week after week, stretching back to his Houston days... Now why, i ask, Can't Les provide a more stable, consistent QB position at a premiere school like LSU? Doesn't have to be 500 yard passing games, just ok play might keep LSU competitive. However, with the Defense so lackluster nowadays, just "average" at the QB spot may not be enough.

I have always wondered this in the past.
Watch out Saturday night - things about to change!

process information quickly and think on their feet, which are essential attributes OL's need for successful Zone Blocking. He's "Urinating in the Wind" with most of this current group.

I agree.
I just don't understand the Grimes hire all all. Trying to implement a zone scheme, but calling power runs makes no sense. Unless they were hoping to transition over to a more spread/pistol style O over the next couple of years grimes won't be at LSU for long. They may be doing just that though.

this decline has been predicted for 10 years now. "coker" was every third word on this page in 2008.
the people still doing it are just pissed that they were 100 percent wrong so they're clinging to it no matter what the reality is.

Those mouth breathers are really upset about how wrong they were too.

There you go with that crap again BRAVEHEART. Describe what you mean by "up north" player versus a down south player? Your code speak is not hiding what you are saying. It takes a total imbecile to argue that an "up north" lineman is better than a down south linemen. And you obviously qualify for the description.
You do not believe our current "down south' linemen can process information and think on their feet, right? In other words they are lack intelligence? You probably feel they are lazy and shiftless, as well , right? But being born "up north" provides that intelligence, right? The "up north" player are inherently more intelligent and are superior to our current players is your position? So you agree that southerners are not intelligent, right?
You probably should just follow hockey. I think all of their players are from "up north" and thus have the requisite intelligence. By the way, where are you from?

which has absolutely no correlation to actually winning games.
if Miles inherited a team with a heisman winner at QB, 2 top 5 tackles, a top 10 WR, and a 5 star RB already in the roster, then went 9-4 in his second year, which is what sumlin did even though everyone ignores it, people here would lose their minds.
seriously, frick sumlin, frick that system. it has a very real and very obvious ceiling, and always has, every single time its been used, but some of you simply ignore that.
a million fancy pass plays are still just pass plays, and a good pass d stops them dead and theres no plan b. they scored 10 on LSU last year. ten points. total. what they do against shitty defenses is of no concern.
(and now i just have to wait for some doofus to say, "but bama, der-her, lol, they beats da bama dat one time". yes, out of sheer random luck. sheer random luck is not a plan)

In my original post I should have added that a good 40% of our fan base (more than that if you consider the Rant our representative of our fanbase, but I digress...) have been predicting the same demise. Every time we lose, it's an "I told you so moment" or "You still in love with Miles?" moment...
More often than not (a lot more often than not), it's a "we are winning in spite of Miles" comment after we beat whoever or win unexpectedly. Frankly, I expect our team to win every weekend. It's just a better outlook during my favorite time of year.
I don't love Miles, but I've come to embrace his approach and I have confidence in him and his staff. Miles really has had some WTF moments, but by and large, he's the fricking man.
Ready to bro down.

I really think that's what Cam would prefer to run. Look at his QB recruits.

LSU has a ton of young players this year and this is a big reason why.
Losing that many underclassmen to the draft hurts.
We are inexperienced at essentially every position on offense.
We are inexperienced on the Dline.
I don't believe the decline is real. We just pulled in the number 2 ranked recruiting class and they are being asked to step up immediately.
I do think losing that many Juniors the past 2 seasons has hurt us, but it will help out in the long run with recruiting.
