shite man. If you decide to get back in the gym download the stronglifts 5x5 app. It will have you starting with the bar. I did it. And I felt not one bit silly. Before you know it you'll be squatting and deadlifting serious weight and you'll feel amazing.

And don't think you won't be sore from squatting an empty bar 25 times when you get back into it. I couldn't freaking sit on the toilet it hurt so bad.

I remember seeing a young guy doing girl pushups and was struggling on #3. He had a trainer.

That dude had all the respect in the room.

Appreciate the advice. I'm definitely not into lifting super heavy. And won't ever be. I'm good with light weight stuff. I'll be like the old dude who was the boxing trainer off of Seinfeld.

I said this at one point. Any reason you don't want to get stronger?

Dont be afraid to get on either plate loaded or selectorized machines for a month or so to build up some strength. Going into the gym and doing compound power movements when you havent lifted in a long time is an easy way to get hurt.

not true.

start light, listen to your body and do the actual movements.

Machines remove the stabilizers that are built early on that are needed when weights start getting heavy.

Doing machines let your increase weight without increasing the stabilization at the same time.

Start light, and do the actual move.

I'm no Capt. Bengal, but absolutely this. You want to build functional strength. Smith machines are a bad thing.

That's not to say I'm super strong already or to imply that.

I'm just at a point where I'd like functional strength without adding bulk. I have no desire to lift hundreds of pounds. I'd like to lift a moderate amount of weight for a long time. If that makes sense.

I just started lifting 3 weeks ago. On my 4th morning of working out, I did 2 sets of squats before it happened. First rep of 3rd set, the weight got the better of me + I forgot my form, I rocked backward on my heels and completely crashed out, dumping weights all over the floor, tearing the crap out of my ankle ligaments, etc.

Did this shite early on in my weight lifting experience. I was a freshman in high school doing walking lunges with a barbell on my shoulders during a lifting session for the football team. Lost my balance, bar came down on my neck, and I sprawled out like an idiot. Starting QB of the Varsity team runs over and asks, stifling a grin, if I'm alright. I could do nothing but laugh at myself. Dusted myself off and got back at it. Hurt like a mother fricker, but my ego got checked right away.

So I understand completely. Usually the embarrassment is all in your head. Most of the people in that gym would come running over to help you if they saw you struggling. No one there is there to laugh at you, which is something I learned from my own embarrassing collapse.

Hope you heal up okay and get back at it.

This was the double whammy for me yesterday. This guy had to get the girl working to help him get his t shirt off so he can show off the sleeveless shirt cut to the waist.

Especially at higher weights than you did even when you did lift a bit. In my defense, I had built up gradually to the weight I fell at. I really blame it on a lack of focus. I can't say Rippetoe didn't warn me about form.
