Goodbye to the Broadmoor Theatre
I went on my very first date to see Herbie the Love Bug at the Broadmoor Theatre. My family went to see the James Bond movies there every year and countless movie nights with friends all through high school.
Miss the lady with the big red hair and the coral lipstick...

The wanted to market that out parcel to a pharmacy....like a CVS or Rite Aid.

I still don't believe that grocery store is going to attract the amount of patrons to require additional parking.
There is no other grocery store around that area but the walmart by Cortana. There will be plenty of people to shop there. There are over 2,000 houses in Broadmoor alone.

Yep. I'm just a few blocks away in Broadmoor and am very excited about Hi-Nabor opening.
I, too, spent many nights watching movies in that theater, mainly because it was the second-run location, and the admissions were cheap. And of course, the biggest thing that I remember was my feet sticking to the floor.
It's funny because my almost 5yr old is really, really fascinated with the building. He likes to drive by and look at it, then goes home and builds or draws it. He keeps asking when they're going to tear it down, and I keep telling him it won't be long. He'll be super-excited to get to watch it being demolished.

Man that guy must be pretty old if he owned 18 movie theatres in 1965, or was a very savvy businessman for his age
Something isn't adding up. He graduated from LSU in 68.

Well, I hope they have some ingenious ways of hadling that size crowd once they get inside the store. Doesn't matter if you have 500 parking spots, if you only have 4-5 registers working.

I think you may be confusing Ogdens.

Well I really only know my immediate neighbors, so I doubt it unless you're one of them. I'm near the elementary school...

My grandma's house was right around the corner from there off of Cora. I have many fond memories of that place. My brothers and I would walk or ride bikes to that shopping center from her house to buy comic books, used video games, and see matinee movies. I was deeply saddened when they closed. One by one, I had to watch the memories of my childhood fall by the wayside: The toy store in Cortana Mall, the arcade, the book store in the mall, the book store in broadmoor that sold comic books, Toys-R-Us, Bud's, the used games shop, Pancho's, the Broadmoor, and finally my grandmother's house. Soon, my grandmother may be added to that list as well. Thankfully, the rest of Baton Rouge (outside of Tinsletown) has vastly improved since then, but losing those landmarks of my childhood stung.
