I'm very anti large government and normally question reports issued by government agencies. However I truly believe most people in the pentagon and high ranking members of the military care about the people in this nation. Our highest calling is to uphold and defend the constitution that protects Americans.

BS! I've read it here 229 times that Obama needs to be doing something. He needs to do something dammit or ISIS will take over the world.

I trust the government when they say I will go to jail if I don't pay taxes.

Can you give me an example when these agencies did not act in the best interest of American citizens.
You can debate that from here to eternity but it really isn't relevant to my post anyway. What I meant was that the hammer will always look to bash the nail because that is what it is. Govt agencies will always look to use govt solutions. intent does not matter.

The military is bombing Syria. That's not acting in my best interest.
So are they doing it just to piss you off, or are they doing it as some sort of plot to screw the average American citizen?

Nah. They're doing it to benefit those working in the government and to gain support from the American people. But it's not some nefarious conspiracy. It's just the way bureaucrats are. A school of fish don't have backroom meetings about which way to swim. They just all kinda work in the same direction without having to plan it all out.

Combination of personal experience and a condescending attitude towards those in government. The vast majority in government are neither intelligent nor clever enough to deceive on a large scale.
The defense/intelligence stuff is a little tricky by its very nature, though I do think it's become much easier to decipher motives and events over the last five years or so. I mean, shoot, if you know what you are doing, you can get on jihadist websites and read a lot of stuff for yourself or get points of view and first-hand accounts from hundreds of different sources.

Why is the report that the military bombed a group who was planning on attacking the USA with toothpaste bombs something we should trust?

The only agency I actually trust is the CDC. It appears to be the least partisan and the least influenced by politics.
One of the very first things Obama did as POTUS was to fire the director of the CDC. The CDC is tainted just like all the rest of it.

I always trust Government, which is made up of people and subject to their frailties, to do what humans do and that is put forth their individual needs and agendas first.
I am always skeptical of anything I hear out of government. I have very seldom been wrong to be skeptical (I can't think of a single time in 49 years).
I grew up in the 70's when no one trusted the man....everyone was skeptical (pop-culture of the period is chock-a-bock full of examples of this)....and politicians and government had to work hard to stay out of trouble with the governed. Now as long as the politician has the right letter nest to their name (R or D) they are allowed much more leeway. They know it and take full advantage....

I trust the government when the conspiracy theories are too complicated or outlandish to be realistic.

Only when they say "hey we're here to frick you, take your shite and blame it on you."
Posted on 9/24/14 at 6:49 am to Scruffy
Honestly, I trust that they will pick up the trash (at some point). This is about it.
Posted on 9/24/14 at 8:59 am to Scruffy
Honestly, never.
I never trust anything they say or do. Because history has shown that nearly 99% of shite they do or say is a lie.

Oh, and why don't I trust them? Because every single "solution" seems to be, in some way, "more government".
Exactly.
That's why the Founders and Framers bequeathed to us a Limited Government in the form of a Constitution that limited FedGov's authority and function.
We have abandoned those founding principles and the consequences are plain to see.
Government, as the US model creates it, can do both good and evil works. Rarely are the evil works intentional, but even so -- Limited Government is the way to go. That's obvious.
Minimize government intrusion in our private lives. Do this by demanding Limited Government that's in accord with the principles bequeathed to us.

I don't fully trust any part of government. I suppose by default I trust the FDA on some level for some foods and medication. Also, I have to somewhat trust the NTSA that I will cross a bridge without it collapsing.
I don't trust any politician or any govt rep's worlds
