slow erosion of the lines under Miles

This is responsible for the mess the team is in now.
LSU gradually stopped getting the OL/DL superstars and the level of play has dropped off. An established program with a coach in his 10th year should have stockpiled enough talent to have new guys come in without the huge dropoff we've seen lately.
The days of Spears and Hill on the ends and Lavalais and Williams in the middle are looong gone. Saban and other SEC schools are raiding the top line talent from LA and it's got to stop or LSU will not return to elite status.

Wasn't this touted as one of the most talented O-lines LSU has ever had before the season?

Yep. Our o-line has had to go back to step 1 because of grimes. We shouldn't be running zone if it's going to cost us games.

I think it has more to do with LSU leading the " enter draft early" school than recruiting. If we keep half of the ones that left early we win at least 1 natty the last 3 or 4 years

And your posts have caused a slow erosion of intelligence on this board.....

O-lines, more than any position outside of the QB, are more reliant on coaching and scheme than on talent.
Wanna see a well coached team in college? Look at the OLine and QB.

Juniors leaving early

So we aren't pleased with Grimes so far?
I don't know much about the finer points of O-line play.

They would rather play for Saban, Muschamp, etc. Gerald Willis from Karr, Cam Robinson from West Monroe, just 2 off top of my head.

OL has taken a big step back. I was stupid enough to think that Wisconsin had created some brilliant scheme with no front seven guys returning and undersized to make our great OL look bad. The perplexing deal is the same guys looked pretty good last year. I'll throw in the TEs as well and Connor, they all were fairly consistent blockers. This Grimes deal looks as bad as the Malveto situation in 2008. Mostly the same guys going from good to crap. Remember Lou Tepper. I realize that Mett had more respect than our current QBs but this fall off is extreme and the only answer is Grimes.
I believe the DEs on LSU are not that bad...yes we have had better deeper DEs, but the DTs from the 2013 class are killing us.When you see the replay from behind the O backfield on Gordon run and Daks, it is embarrassing. I could have got 40 yards through those holes and I'm way past my prime

I had forgotten everyone on TD runs sub 4.3 and would have played in the nfl if they hadn't gotten hurt in high school. Thanks.

Well, if what I've seen so far is a true indication, then no.

its also how they were developed... Moffitt can only do so much on his own...

The issue isn't so much recruiting as it is development (or the lack thereof).

Wasnt 2010-2012 a fanstastic stretch for the DL???
OL has been frustrating, although again, it was stellar as recently as in 2011. Possibly the best OL year under Miles.
It seems as though injuries, Black, Faulk, Williford, even TBob, and some weird attrition, Hurst, has weakened us at inopportune times.

quote:His scheme calls for leaner, more athletic lineman and not 340lbs like Vadal. This was mentioned during the early days of his hiring. Once these guys are gone and his guys are in, you'll see a difference.
and the only answer is Grimes.
