I'll be coming back in November from Malaysia and I am looking for somewhere local to take my wife for a few days.

I have googled local hotel in Houston. Anything beyond that?

She probably would have liked a Malaysian resort better.

They, my family, lived here for over a year. We have been all over south Asia, so in that regard it's all down hill.....

Down hill all the way to Houston? That's a long, depressing free fall.

I moved them to Houston. I still havea few months remaining on my contract. I'll be going to visit soon and want to have my wife alone, away from the kids.

I'll take "Things that Have Nothing in Common" for 200 Alex!

ETA: Either go all out and five-star resort it in town- or get out...and go somewhere nice like Hill Country or New Orleans if you want romance.

A few hotel ahve decent reviews for spas, the Omni, Hilton, etc. I guess that's as good as it'll get.

What about restraunts? Italian maybe.

Hotel magnolia comes to mind for a quick sex getaway. Lots of walking distance bars/restarants in a nice part of downtown.

Wife and I did a weekend staycation there before.

Hotel Zaza is ok. Perhaps not romantic. But it's got a nice bar.

The answer is...non houstonian responses coming from a place of ignorance, versus competent responses from those that actually live here

I have been practicing my mariachi. But i still wear my NO Born and raised "culture" as a badge of honor around here.

Eta: while constantly reminding the huge variety of nationalities that live here just how uncultured they are by comparison.

How old are you?

I would say the Magnolia or Four Seasons downtown. Hotel ZaZa, St Regis, or Houstonian outside of downtown.

Both downtown and the galleria have restaurants close by that can be romantic. Downtown you can do jazz and dancing at Sambuca, sushi and saki at Azuma, margaritas at El Big Bad. Catch a cab/uber to Reef or Pass & Provisions. Sit at the bar at Vic and Anthony's while eating steak and listening to the piano.

I'm not quite as familiar with the Galleria, but Masraffs, RDG Bar Annie, Post Oak Grille, Trulucks are all great options. I'm sure I'm forgetting some here.

If you're younger and want to go to a few bars, about 2-3 blocks from Magnolia there's a new strip of great bars that just popped up within the last 2 years. It's a great area to bar hop...Captain Foxhearts, Little Dipper, Okra, Hearsay, Public Services, etc.

ETA - Mockingbird Bistro is also a great little romantic spot also, if you're in to wine, there's quite a few wine bars around town that should be up your alley.

C'mon man. Houston is a lot of things. But it's not a good place for a romantic stroll. Are you really going to argue?
