To add another note I would prefer a puppy for a few reasons.
1. Gives my daughter the opportunity to name it whatever ridiculous name she wants
2. Lets me train it how I want
3. Not much fun getting an older rescue dog, kids love the crazy puppy

You can name an adopted dog whatever you want.

Just choose well. Don't get a dog that is described as "anxious". I've never met a very well-trained Yorkie anyway

You can rescue puppies.. or even just 1-2 year olds.
Yorkies in general aren't going to be the playful thing you're thinking. They're cutie and some of them are spunky/fun, but their temperament is not generally children-oriented.
Not saying you shouldn't get a Yorkie. Just saying that in general.

Don't let the "adoption mob" intimidate you into getting a shelter dog. If there's a puppy at a shelter, get it if you want it. If you want a pure bred puppy, get one. There's nothing wrong with getting a pure bred dog from a reputable breeder. I prefer pure bred dogs. It's preference. It doesn't make you any less of a dog owner.

Go get you a schnauzer.
- Doesn't shed.
- Decent amount of energy to keep up with your kid.
- Can also be lazy as hell.
- Sturdy dog.
- Easy maintenance.

Have you ever owned a dog before? Honest question, because i don't think you have.

You and everyone else who has every adopted a shelter dog can change the name of your dog

Again, you can always train a dog however you want. Unless you dont know what you're doing.

You can find dogs under a year old at shelters. Sometimes only a few weeks or months.

Do you know anyone who has a yorkie? Especialy a "tea cup" version? You may get 6 months of "crazy puppy" energy from them, but they are basically lap dogs.
