What I want to know is whether the old story about having an event where Santa was to parachute out of a helicopter at a shopping center parking lot and they pushed a Santa suit filled with dogfood out and rigged the chute to malfunction true? Or was that TKE?

when I was there they'd have a Christmas party for orphans at their house, and as "Santa" was coming down the stairs to greet the kids, a couple of "gangsters" would barge in the front door with machine guns and blow Santa away, complete with a dramatic fall down the stairs and a slow agonizing death worthy of the hokiest B movie ever

I'm an old DKE/Friar alum. All these stories are falsehoods.

Garry James was in the 1983 Gumbo. Guy in blackface with a football helmet on, rope chains, football in one hand, jam box in the other...probably wouldn't fly today. But in that same Gumbo, the confederate flag makes several appearances and there might have been some others in blackface for South Seas. Different times.

The helicopter story is 100% false.

The story about the house mom in a mattress is 100% false.

The story about sending a sorority a bunch if donuts as an apology is 100% false.

The story about the fire Marshall might be based in fact. In the early 1990's, the Fire Marshall found so many violations at the DKE house, the house was closed until repairs could be made. They were off campus for a year, I believe.

The cook was in their composite most years while I was there so the salt n peppa story could be true.

Mom Alverson was a saint and Levi was a really cool dude, despite his past.

Probably the same woman who greeted me during Rush in the fall of '87. Charming and warm, with a hint of widowed old lady crazy eye. God bless her.

What about the time a DKE pledge popped an alka seltzer in his mouth and lay down in front of the Catholic Church as people were walking in and acted like he was having a seizure. Or pledges running naked across dalrymple during the middle of the day.

I remember back in the day at Nicholls after it was discovered that Rock Hudson had the AIDS and was gay, one of the fraternities (I think TKE) had their Homecoming sign that said "ROCK THE BEARCATS" with the Colonel standing behind a Bearcat appearing to be pumping him up the arse and the Bearcat had a shocked expression on its face.
