1) Do NFL scouts find LSU backs appealing because they usually have lots of tread left on them and they usually have extensive special teams experience?

2) If yes to the first, does that have any effluence on a HS running back and his choice to come to LSU?

I think the coaches definitely show them that every back LSU has had over the past 10 years has at least made a roster to start preseason... You are given the opportunity to play in the NFL.

Probably b/c they play against 60 or so NFL defensive players before they get to the NFL.

yes to both.

as a RB who is offered to a major university, one has to believe that he is thinking of his nfl future and not so much of being a Heisman candidate.

LSU backs havent exactly fared well in the NFL. To a point where as a whole, they haven't been appealing at all. That's not an attempted shot; just the facts.

1. Yes... Especially about the special teams part. If you're a guy fighting for a roster spot, teams would rather like to have a versatile player that can contribute in a lot of diff ways over a player that can only do 1 thing. How much work a RB has in college isn't a major thing to the NFL IMO... As long as that RB has been and is healthy / injury free. Bishop Sankey was the #1 RB taken this last draft and he had over 700 touches in 3 years. They def look at it... But don't think they would pass on a really good and healthy RB just because of his touches in college.

2. Not with the big named guys IMO. If you're a stud RB, we will offer you regardless if you can play special teams or not. But with a smaller recruit, like Alfred Blue, it def helps if you can contribute in diff ways. But that goes for a lot of guys who are on the bubble of earning an offer from us. Not every guy you give a scholarship contributes at all. But you want as many to contribute as possible.

I think we as fans get too caught up in how NFL scouts and teams view certain schools. I generally think that most evaluations are done almost entirely on an individual basis. That's how so many small school guys end up excelling.

KG is spot on as always.
Lester's right , NFL scouts dont find LSU's RB's more appealing than any other well coached school.

LSU being a RBBC offense does very little in deciding where a player is drafted imo.
Stature along with previous injuries would be way more concerning for a scout than carries in college. We've heard that Nick Saban wears his guys out in college and thats why they arent producing as well in the pros. Personally, I think thats a reach.

2. LSU is a ball control running team and will continue to get most of their targeted RB's.

Special teams experience maybe, lesser touches no. Teams themselves dgaf about that.

Lesser touches is a boon for the recruits' longevity in the NFL though and it should matter in ther decision making process.

I think at this point the things RB should be thinking about it

Work load and scheme

I think it is becoming clear that RB are less and less valuable in the NFL.

Also on a completely different note, how about Hunter getting in the backfield almost before the handoff. As a OT you don't get burnt much worse than that. He almost tackled both the QB and the RB.
