That's kind of ridiculous. He absolutely deserves blame. His mistake directly led to the go ahead score.

Does he deserve blame entirely on his own? Of course not. There were a number of reasons why we lost. That fumble is one of them though, obviously.

Dude never makes that mistake. Also you can see how upset he is afterwards.

I like his reaction after the fumble, but to say he doesn't make mistakes is false. Remember the big fumble he had against the packers in Green Bay?

He was stripped and it came at an unfortunate time.

Eta: the blame goes to the defense who gave up the second most yards per game in franchise history with 568 total yards and the most ever passing yards per game with 448 yards.

If you score 34 yards its expected that you win.

Colston has made more valuable catches and game winning TD's for the Saints in recent years... His drops and fumble didn't lose this game...the play of the defense lost this game... It's the NFL... Expect games like this... 15 more regular season games left... To be continued....

Y'all should stick to the IM threads.

The lack of football knowledge is embarrassing.

Would Colston have fumbled that ball on that same play in 2009? Should we give him a pass here since he was on the Super Bowl team? Just curious....

this might be a valid point if he wasn't still producing at a very high level.

...5 receptions, 110 yards

he fricked up today...he knows it...we all know it....he's still the best Saints receiver of all time and still playing like it

what I can never understand is how people always want to blame one player for a loss in a team sport. Makes me wonder if they've ever played team sports in their life before. Probably not but, hey thats cool if they didn't. Whatever.

there have been solid points made in here as to why we lost but some people only want to blame #12.

another thing that hurt the Saints today was poor tackling.

Our Defense just let Matt fricking Ryan throw for 450 yards. If anyone blames Colston they're retarded
I disagree, it's the NFL. Sometimes the margin is razor thin and individual plays do lose the game.

Did yal see the turnover stat where the Saints are 38-1 when tied or positive in the turnover margin under Payton? Colston's turnover broke the tie.

Without that fumble I have ZERO doubt we casually march down and score a TD to win that game.

so what about the Drew Brees interception before that when he got picked off in the endzone.

nah, that didn't mean much.

And that play never happens if we don't give up 34 in regulation.

This is the biggest problem with the game. Defense was supposed to be improved and they looked like the record setting defense from a couple years ago. The pass rush was pathetic and people were talking about nicknames such as The Dome Patrol 2.0, lol.

Eh, dude fumbled in overtime. That's a mistake you can't make.

Not blaming him solely but his mistake directly led to the final blow.

Well, to be fair, he is a pro and should not make those errors multiple tines in one game, no matter what our D does. It's not ok to give away the game in it to a divisional rival just because the defense sucks. I am mad as I can be at Colston, and Brees for that matter, for not being better at protecting the ball. We can't win on the road STILL! And sadly, our veterans are to blame.

Ps, Lewis is a pussy

It's sad that Colston most likely will never make the pro-bowl with his best years behind him. He was robbed on at least 2 occasions.

I can think of someone else who fumbled in a game last year that we ultimately lost. That guy rarely fumbles. Seems he was knocked a lot more than Colston. (Not saying you belong in that category OP)

Of course a playoff game and the first game of the season are two different situations.
