Any must have mounts and accessories? Looks like there are a ton of options out there.
It will be mainly used on duck, deer, and turkey hunting trips and the occasional kayak fishing trip.

I just got a head mount and chest mount. Will try them out for skiing this year. The adhesive mounts suck.

ok, give me a little bit, i'll try to help..
do you plan on running the camera nonstop while hunting/fishing or do you plan on turning it on and off when you hit go?
how long are you in the stand/blind while hunting?
all these questions will ansewer how many mounts, batteries, harnesses and other stuff you need..
And because you got a GoPro, get ready to break out the checkbook
welcome to the club, have fun..

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with it. Is it easier to leave it running and edit later or turn on when the birds are coming in? What's the typical battery life like?
I've never filmed a hunt before, so I'll take whatver advice I can. Is it better to mount on the gun or put on the bill of a hat?
I may get Redfish2010 to school me on it.

The head mount is a must. Especially when hunting. Chest mount will get blocked, where as the head mount will give you some really good POV shots, especially when there's a good group of birds in front of you.
I also made a "go-pole" for relatively cheap. You can buy them for $50+ but I made mine for under $20.
I took a walking stick from wal mart (camping section) and cut the top off. I then flattened the tip, grinded down the edges and screwed a hole big enough for the mount. I forgot the screw size but you can use the tripod mount to go on here. It works great for a bunch of different situations. Especially for underwater shots when you're fishing. I'll send you pics of it when I get home tonight.
ETA. Just saw your questions about battery. You'll want to buy a few extras and keep them in the blind with you. I like to leave mine runnig for the first 30'minutes of the hunt, just because there usually a lot of action there. After that I'll switch to "one-button" mode and use it only once we see birds. The one button makes it start recording as soon as you turn it on which helps with batteries.
When I first got mine, I bought a memory card from best buy that they recommended. It fried two cameras and I lost a ton of really good footage. Look on the GoPro website and what brands they recommend or I can look at that tonight too for you. Make sure you don't cheat yourself in the card, because after all, that's where everything meaningful will be after the trip.
ETA x2
That video I put in youtube last year was all shot from the pole and head mount.
I found that changing the field of view from wide to medium really helps when duck hunting as well.

I want a Go Pro. I'm afraid I'll start doing stupid stuff though.

Get the pole mount for your rod and ski poles
Head mount a must

I have a head mount and various clip mounts. I also built my own universal mount. Pic below. That aluminum mount is attached to a short piece of PVC and I can make other PVC mounts to put it on. I built one for my kayak. I'll take a pic later and post.

Do some search online for different mounts. There are a ton of different companies making them now for much cheaper than gopro. The new sportsman mount from gopro is pretty badass, as well as the claw mount. Good luck, it's a lot of fun.

What's the difference between the white, silver, and black?
Been thinking of getting one. Don't know too much about them. I should probably do some studying so I don't waste money.

hero 2, 3 or 3+?
there actually isn't a ton difference between all these models, but some nice features not on the Hero2 white/silver/black
if you really want the specs, i'd check their site
fwiw though, my favorite is the Hero2 black because of its battery life, but i wouldn't buy one for everyday use.. i'd get a Hero3+ silver.. the best new one imo becuase the 3+black drains a shite ton of battery.. at least mine does

I guess I'd get the 3+. Is that the latest and greatest?

I know he OB will probably disapprove but, I have been thinking about getting an Ion Air Pro 2. It pretty much has everything the GoPro Black has but is waterproof without a case and is $250. The WiFi module can also be replaced with an extra battery and they say they have plans for other modules.
In the comparison videos I have seen, the Air Pro has better sound and unedited video.
What says the OB? ION Air Pro

yeah, get a hero2 or a hero3+.. just not hero3, they are pieces of shite and that is why GoPro made the hero3+

my friend has one for mountain biking and likes it better than his GoPro, and he was one of the first GoProboys i remember
but yeah, he loves it, he thinks the 1080 quality isn't as good, but the battery life is much better on 960p and that's what he normally runs i believe

How do the waterproof cases hold up? I mean, I'm not going deep sea diving with it. But I may do some snorkeling.

I've been thinking about getting a head mount for duck hunting. The pole mount would be cool to stick on a gun but it'll obscure your aiming unfortunately.
