Early 1990s film where he plays a fraudulent touring minister whose "show" stops in a small Midwest town for a revival that ultimately changes his life.

I really like this movie. It's the right amount of funny and cynical. It was streaming on amazon for a while. This is from the thread I started about it a few months ago that lead to a YouTube/google deep dive of info:

Per imdb this is loosely based on Peter Popoff who would use a radio to have his revelations about people in his audience. He was exposed on the tonight show.

Peter popoff is fun to watch while under the influence.
off subject, If Bill had passed on it, I think Steve would have been great in Groundhog Day.

good movie that seems to fly under the radar compared to many of his other works.
while much more sillier than 'faith', a guilty pleasure of mine was always 'my blue heaven'...

Leap of Faith was good.
My Blue Heaven may have been a little better. It's a good one too.

My Blue Heaven is not only his most underrated film, it's his best. But I do enjoy Leap of Faith.
It is interesting how poorly Roxanne has aged. That was his big movie in the 80s, and I never hear it even mentioned anymore.

I'd have given him all my money.

You gotta see the whole thing in context, which the clip unfortunately omits, focusing just on Martin's performance. As I recall, it was Jonas's standard schtick when called out on his past, and Winger's reaction shot when he was about to start was hilarious, and at the end of it, I think the choir burst out and brought everyone to the heights of religious ecstasy.

OK, added My Blue Heaven to the Netflix queue.
I really think The Man With Two Brains and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid were underrated, and it's a shame that they seem to have vanished.
