Nuke em till they glow at night...then shoot em in the dark.

I doubt Isis would care if you nuked any major city that didn't have some religious significance. You'd have to nuke Mecca to really get to em. I wouldn't recommend doing that.

We could blow up Mecca AND Jerusalem and the world would probably be better off. Kind of a "okay, if you can't share the toy, no one gets it." Kind of thing.

Data sources?
Chose this place? I responded to a post on THIS board. I don't scour the internet trying to find "the right place" to post an opinion.
What in the ever loving bananas are you talking about?

The reason we dropped the bomb on the Japanese is because of the consensus estimates for loss of life were we to invade the island. There is no corollary here in relation to ISIS. Until there is solid evidence of ISIS's capability to cause massive numbers of US casualties, the nuclear option is and should not be on the table. In fact, absent solid evidence that ISIS has developed nuclear capability, we would never consider it.
You totally missed my point. I never said to nuke them. Instead I said that to end this threat we've got to respond to their violence and terror in such an overwhelming manner they realize there is nothing to gain and much to lose from continued hostile acts of terror towards us. This overwheming response IMO should be about two solid weeks of 24 hour a day rain of 500 lb GP bombs from an unending stream of B1s, B52s, and any other aircraft in our inventory capable of reaching their capital and dropping ordnance. Bomb their capital into dust and then scatter that dust in a hale storm of American iron. Make them sit there for day after day huddled in their bomb shelters until they start howling like dogs. And if they try anything else then go to the next city and give it the same treatment.
Is that brutal? Is that cruel? Yes, but if you have a better way to make them stop, I'd love to hear it.

You'd actually be helping them in that case.

Guess we should guard Mecca to piss them off

Exactly!!! They pull this shite...we open the gates of hell on their asses for a few weeks. To give in will only encourage them to do more shite later.

I heard an interesting theory that religious fanaticism is inspired, in part, by their historical landmarks like Mecca. Said we should destroy mecca and jeruselum if we wanted to end the conflict between jews and muslims.

There is one simple rule of warfare that has been true of every war since the dawn of civilization. Victory can only be achieved by breaking the will of your enemy. And the only way to break the will of a fanatical enemy who craves death in the name of their god is to make them see that not only will their death be meaningless in furthering their cause, but in addition to this you've got to force them to stare extinction of their their entire civilization in the eye and realize that is what is coming unless they capitulate to your will.

I really, really wish our administration would do that. But instead, we have a pres who will send a few Special Ops and claim we are doing all we could.
However, Special Forces aren't the answer. As Darth said, there is only ONE thing they understand and that would have to be delivered to every one of those bastards. Unrelenting, unwavering, and overwhelming response. Nothing else. Think not? Look at how "scared" Al Quieda (sp) is...

Him seen smiling, laughing, and joking on national tv is just going to give the impression that he doesn't care.
First, I don't like him as President (voted against him both times) and can only think of a couple positive things he's done in 6 years, but you guys are nuts if you think he has to give up a basic human emotion just because there are Americans held captive somewhere.
Second, should I remind you that he was laughing it up at the White House Correspondents' Dinner just hours before the raid to kill UBL. He was doing that to appear normal so as not to give away that something important was pending. I'm not saying that a raid on the ISIS bastards is pending; just saying that snapping a picture of him smiling/laughing during troubling times is not indicative of him not caring about these barbaric murders.

Good point. Spec Ops can do important damage like taking out key leaders so there is a place for these types of raids. But as we've seen, when you cut off one head, another pops up to take it's place. We'll never defeat these people using pin pricks and limited attacks. Like you said, only massive, overwhelming death and destruction on a level they know they'll never be able to match from a source they have no hope of defending themselves from will ever break their will to fight.

Is there any truth to the reports that ISIS has been studying/infiltrating our southern border?
