wouldn't confuse education level with intelligence either. There are a ton of very stupid people with Ph.D. after their names.

This. I know PhDs who are dumb as rocks, but they are blond with a nice rack and banged their way through.

I know doctors who I wouldn't let near me. One of the smartest people I have ever met is a damn small animal vet.

Bastiat's description of socialists is not far from the ideas of Plato's Republic, except there was the third class the guardians.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

well, of course any religion that would be exposed by intelligent people would include that catch-all

It's simple. They think people are dumb and think smart people like themselves need to make a bunch of rules to make life for these simpletons as easy as possible.

They don't care about freedom and liberty or whatever. They think they know better and can "solve" society to make it better for all of us.

In short, they are self-righteous assholes.

He is a scientist who, IIRC, works at LSU.

Not caused by intellect. Intelligent people have a higher social status, and any group considered "superior" by society is more likely to be atheist or agnostic. Men are more likely than women to be atheists. Whites are more likely than minorities, the rich are more likely than the poor, and so on.

It's because the "better" people (in the eyes of man) start buying into their own hype and replace God with themselves. It isn't even a modern Western phenomenon. There are plenty of examples of the kings of Israel and Judah getting swelled heads and ignoring God's directives.

I'll wager the vast majority of scientists are employed by private companies.

The smart ones are. The failures remain in academia .

Maybe. Maybe not. The unsupported premise of the OP was that they are "usually" socialist/leftist.

I agree. Most doctors/surgeons I know are the exact opposite of leftist/socialists. But then again, most of them are private practice.

historically when?

No one thinks that is a good idea today.

Also, in this thread people who got easy degrees try to justify why the people who got hard degrees aren't as smart as them.

And they see the sheer stupidity of government bureaucrats on a daily basis, when they deal with the latest inane Medicare or Medicaid rule. (Most of which are designed to trip providers on a technicality instead of what they should do, which is rooting out fraud and avoiding payments for unnecessary/inefficient treatments.)

i chuckled at this as well. intellectuals are the first ones sent to the gallows or firing squads when the cultural revolutions of totalitarian regimes roll out.

then again, the passage that the OP quoted was perhaps the most profoundly stupid shite i've ever read. so judge accordingly.
