When the DC criticized Bush on foreign soil the backlash was swift and immediate. They were called traitors to their country (along with other, sometimes misogynist, names)

Fast forward and Rand Paul now is attacking Obama on foreign soil, but there isn't that same righteous indignation. I guess it's okay as long as those on the right agree with the criticism.

Didn't President Obama criticize American foreign policy on foreign soil on his Apology Tour? Yes he did. Hypocritical much?

Is Rand slamming Obama or agreeing with Obama's "don't do stupid stuff" policy? Obama's speech today seems like it could have been written by Rand.

If it helps I will not download, or purchase another Rand Paul music CD.

i mean, he kind of is

but the libertarians are war weary and reject interventionist policies. this is pissing off traditional conservatives and liberals

this is just like why the Tea Party formed in response to conservatives supporting TARP. GWB did more for the libertarian movement than any other individual

the US was still fairly recently removed from a terrorist attack. everyone was feeling very pro-america even though a growing number of people disliked bush. plus she was a country music singer and her audience included a lot of bush supporters. she severely miscalculated the effect her comments would have.

fast forward to today. we are not recovering from a terrorist attack. americans are actually growing war weary and sick of the 'we're always at war' state of affairs we're in and a growing number of people dislike obama. rand paul is not a country singer. therefore no one gives a shite if he dares criticize obama be it here, england, france, or the fricking moon.

i hope this helps.

Rand Paul is a political opposition leader.

The DCs are a collection of 2s and 3s that sing crappy music and attempt to pry money from the dirty fingernails of their fans.

Little bit different, in my mind. Either way, since when is political opposition unAmerican? I think, in the entertainment business, you always take a certain risk of alienating your fans when you step out of the cocoon of a tour bus and spew stupid political commentary, as if your opinion carries any weight.

Politicians run the same risk. I'd be a terrible politician because I just don't know how to lie that well.

Apparently the "politics stops at the water's edge" meme died during the Bush years.

Did RP make a purely ad hominem attack or did he make a substantive criticism of Bushbama's policies?

Well, their comments had more to do with war. It was still 'fresh' and people hadn't grown so war-weary. The 'if you critique the prez or the war, you're against the troops' meme was still in full effect. Fast forward a decade and the toll of blood and treasure has converted immensely the neocon faithful.

Prez Barry hasn't exactly shown astute foreign policy aptitude and criticism is warranted and proffered from the right and left.

FWIW, IMO, the response to the Chicks was ridiculous. The whole 'foreign soil' qualifier is just an insulator to criticism via the 'patriotism' route. Now, as then, you should be able to offer your opinion without the mainstream media choosing a side and vilifying you.

As for the hypocrisy, very little within the warped world of politics falls outside the veil.

It was a different time and different circumstances.

Think about World War II. Dropping nuclear bombs on Japan I'm sure had a lot of support. If Obama decided to drop a nuclear bomb on any country right now, it would have no support.

Different times, different circumstances, different mind frames, etc.

As it relates to the Dixie Chicks, the war had more support then. Now, people are tired of the wars. So the circumstance are different and what was said years ago may get a different reaction today.

Same reason the DN fricking C wrote an article ripping Paul that looked like it could have been written about Obama in 08. You're all hypocrites.
