Central schools weeding out non district students

Live oak has the same issues. I'm sure Zachary, Praireville does as well.
I'm pretty sure i heard the end of a news piece this morning from a disgruntled parent complaining because she didn't have a Louisiana License or something along those lines and her child couldn't go to Central.

I say good for them. All school districts should do this. Increase the paperwork for enrollment. Require 3 forms of address/ID

I live in Central have a child in the school system. Every year you have to fill the paperwork out, it's really not that difficult, and they give you several options to show you live in the district. For years, even before Central became a city this has been an issue, they've gotten a lot more strict since becoming a city because there have been large numbers of kids using grandparents addresses or friends to get in and they've cracked down on that. If this woman went to a school board member her issues probably would've been solved, but typical of our society today, instead of talking to the person/organization you have issue with, they go to the news or the internet and blast the other person/organization.

we get St. Helena kids all the time down in Live Oak.
Most of them seem like good kids.I know staff turns a blind eye because they are good at sports.

This is true. These kids though that are from St. Helena are really good kids from a poverty stricken area. Not a bunch of thug asses.

The problem is common around the state. A parish with good schools that is surrounded by parishes with poor performing schools will always fight this issue.

Yep. Although they don't contribute to the tax base of the school district, St. Helena is such a shithole I don't mind them coming in tbh.

I know a school in st charles parish had many kids from jefferson parish... during the weed out going on a few years ago.. one parent smartly pointed out that another kid lived another school district FURTHER into jeff parish than they did... and was STILL in school....
he was a college prospect... both kids stayed.

They've made a few small strides though since the latest superintendent came in.

It is very easy to get into schools in other parishes/districts. All you have to do is go to the DMV and get an address within the limits on it. Then, go online and do a rental agreement that says all utilities stay in the landlords name. Then go online and have a credit card or something mailed to that address. Now, this is even easier if you know someone within the limits to use their address. This will give you 3 forms of address/ID.

It's like a huge arse black hole -no pun intended- where the citizens just get stuck in that cycle. No education,no employment,no hope.
And yes,i did see the new school built.

I remember a time when people would move to improve their prospects.

lol at people thinking principals are knowingly allowing out of district kids to stay in their schools based on athleticism, maybe if they were also straight A students but you need to read up on school performance scores and how much stress they put on administration.

I once attended Lake Middle School while being in St. Amant Middle's district. After a year, my mom started working at Lake so I was only doing so illegally for a year.

must be on the East Bank. We've had the issue for a long time on both sides but they finally have stopped it. At one time there were a bunch of kids from Laplace and Kenner at Destrehan and we'd get some from Avondale area at HHS. The parents in the districts complained for years but if the kid was an athlete they stayed. Not that way right now with new administration.
I'm sure there are a few that slip through still.

That, football's all that matters in Central, and they do fine without "recruiting"

Why are central schools so shitty physically? It blows my mind that they haven't built a new Central High School. Has to be one of the dumpiest looking buildings in Central.
