yeah it's called a fish boil and it's fairly common in Wisconsin along Lake Michigan. They use white fish which is a common fish of the great lakes. Think freshwater cod. It is fairly bland but not greasy.

Most people of the Upper Midwest don't like really spicy food though that is changing. it is bland, but you are free to add seasoning when it's on your plate. Though salt and pepper are your only choices most of the time.

Now the Friday Fish Fry in Wisconsin is pretty good. They fry cod or walleye or perch and sometimes pike and it's pretty good in a batter and you eat it with french fries. Thick fish and chips but not as greasy.

Not broiled----boiled, as in boiled in a pot in water with corn and potatoes and had absolutely no seasoning---worst food I have ever eaten. Even the corn and potatoes tasted like boiled fish.

Add a side of sausage and an Ice tea, and I'm ready to go in on that.

you're right. I lived in houston and visited Lafayette, BR and NOLA quite a bit for work…no better place to eat than NOLA, IMO. i think the germans and scandavians in Wisc culturally weren't into spice.

I have spent time in Wisconsin and how those people aren't falling over with Heart Disease in their 40's is beyond me.

If you've ever spent time in the upper Midwest, you'd know the boredom will kill you before heart disease.

Looks like it would soak up the alcohol from a rough night nicely.

Some Yankees moved in a few doors down from us about a year ago. ( he is from Michigan and she is from Iowa ). Nicest people you ever want to meet, but listening to that accent makes me want to tear my ears off, and Lord! They have no idea how to cook! Everything is bland. They don't have salt and pepper shakers on the table. They think our meals are fantastic, but we have to tone down the spice for them....simply can't eat the spicy stuff.

Now THOSE are amateurs. Wisconsin fish should be fried.

Before I ordered it, I'd have to go check out the accommodations in their men's room.

Ample supply of shite tickets?
Roomy, well lit stalls?
Handicap rails for hanging read/unread sections of newspaper?
Traffic flow? If we all eat this at the same time then restroom traffic will spike and courtesy flushes will dramatically increase.
Flush strength of toilet? Needs to be one of those loud sucking, quick flush toilets.

I'd guess this is not the most famous meal associated with Wisconsin football. Though it was aired on ESPN, I'm assuming most associate brats and deep-fried cheese curds with Wisconsin.

That being said, Mickey's is very good at an affordable price. Very difficult to get seating there on any weekend morning. This becomes almost impossible during football season.

Add beer to that and you've got one hell of a saturday and sunday morning breakfast (I've got to eat something before the Packer game too)

As an aside, I get all the "Wisconsin people are fat" jokes, and some of them are pretty funny, but going by facts, the South leads the country in obesity. On the other end of the spectrum, I would also agree that the South also leads in smoking hot chicks and awesome accents.

Much of the south, and more specifically Louisiana, does have a higher rate of obesity. That being said, I agree that there are a larger number of gorgeous women.

I would also say that the University of Wisconsin - Madison has an abundance of good looking women, too. Not only is there a large contingent of Chicago and Minneapolis-area students, but plenty from the coasts (specifically New York and Los Angeles). Should not be a surprise that the student body is attractive.
