8 hours is my cutoff, but I am 1:45 minutes from an airport, so that plays a role in having the 8 hour limit versus 6 hour limit. Frequently, as in 3 times a month, I drive at least 4 hours (Birmingham, actually) for meetings. I am with you on being in my own environment. My clothes are always with me and I can stop to stretch and grab a bite that is not triple normal costs whenever I want.

I actually almost mentioned you You're always up in these
Golfer: Thanks. I'm debating on the switch since it's a pretty big move for me

Just get Marriott to give you a status match challenge to platinum and try it out. Free Breakfast or lounge access at all full service hotels. Bonus points at checkin, free wifi, and they are supposed to auto upgrade you.

This thread reminds me how annoyed I am with travel this year. The 18 weeks from mid June to mid October, I have one week at home, but between United gouging and a lot more regional work, I'm still going to barely hit gold this year.
Eta
I'm actually thinking of the Marriott switch too. I get automatic gold with their partnership with United, and there's been too many Hamptons this year.

yeah that was the plan and may get the CC for 70k points as well...

How many tiers are on United? I considered switching to them and AA this year but stuck with Delta. I will actually benefit from there milage changes

I have grown to despise flying as a mode of travel...I drive 6 hour trips 100% of the time, as I basically spend that much time fricking around with the airport and rental car place...
I will also drive the 8 hour trips, depending on the start/end time of my meetings...
I flew an 11 hour trip (to Kansas City) last week and ended up wishing I had driven, as a whole day was wasted on each end anyway....

I'm on a self enforced ban from Fairfield Inns and Courtyards unless I know they are brand new or have been renovated.
Courtyards in general suck. No breakfast, minimal arrival bonus points, and just meh feel.

4: Silver, gold, platinum, and 1k. It's a blessing and a curse loving in a hub. Plenty of directs, but I can travel 40 weeks and not hit platinum. I'll never switch though, especially with the chase sapphire 1:1 miles match.

My brother has the same problem on AA

I have to agree with this...I will stay at a courtyard if needed, but the fairfields are downright ghetto...
I find that there are a lot more hilton hotels in the areas that I frequent, but the changes in their club has made me want to look elsewhere...
mainly a hilton garden inn customer, when possible....

ATL based weekly commuters along the east coast do as well on Delta. Hub captive people are beholden to that airline and it can be worse than people like us with ample service on multiple airlines.

There are some nice Fairfields and I don't mind them for one night stops but lord help me if I'm in one for more than 2 nights.

4 hours is the cutoff. When you consider how early you have to get tot the airport, plus the layover time. Esp if you get mileage.

I would hate and love at the same time to be ATL based

4 hours. I actually drove to Dallas instead of flying this week and it wasn't bad. Listen to my jams and don't deal with airpoets
I hate when the guy next to me starts spouting off random iambic pentameter shite. frick that!

yeah in reality it probably sucks...I'd probably struggle to hit gold every year and never hit platinum...I hate having to connect somewhere every trip but it's the reason I have status and get more upgrades.
FYI, the noise cancelling headphones have been clutch lately. SO. MANY. KIDS.

I doubt I'd even hit gold
