I really like both of these guys, but for the second year in the row Barnwell isn't that high on us. He thinks that Jordan is the only good player in our front 7. He also goes on about how we lost a ton of players, naming a bunch of over the hill guys like Moore, Greer, Harper (whom he properly said sucked when talking about Carolina), and Sproles while only adding Byrd. Said it felt too much like something he would do in Madden and that Byrd is only a good, not great S. Mays gave a little props to Gallette and Hicks and said that the Saints would run away with the division at 12-4. Barnwell has us around 10-6 and fighting Atlanta for the division.
Barnwell is way off, but it's still a good listen overall.

I'm trying to figure out if the people who think we "lost a lot" even watched us play last year.
Jenkins and Harper were atrocious, Sproles lost a half-step, Moore couldn't get separation.
I could see an argument for losing Greer, although I think our improved safety play can help tremendously.
Then we replaced our out-going safeties with the best available free agent while also adding depth. We "replaced" Moore with Brandin Cooks and our runningbacks look better than ever. Pierre was always our best screen back anyway.
Hell, maybe I'm just a homer.

I legit LOLed last night when NFLN was talking about how great an addition Jenkins was for the Eagles. My thinking is that his tendency to make one or two spectacular plays per year has people thinking that he's worth a shite.

My being a Saints homer makes me more knowledgeable about the Saints than other teams, but I look at things objectively and I think that this is the best Saints team we've ever had. Barnwell was shocked when Mays said the Saints would go 12-4. We're better than the 2009 and 2011 13-3 teams.

Maybe they're thinking about the Dallas game from like 3 years ago when he stripped that ball. Or maybe Harper sucked so bad that Jenkins looked fantastic by default.

As scared as I am to admit it, I agree completely.
Now I'll go quietly brace myself for 1-15.

Good listen, but Barnwell is such an unbearable douche.

Look at the entire team, and find what positions we're weakest at.
LT: Armstead's inexperience in the only scary part. He was very good late last year and was always considered a project. If he neither improves nor falls off, it's a bit above average.
ILB: We sort of suck at. It's also the least important position on defense, especially when you have a safety like KV that can do everything.
CB: We have a great #1. We don't have a clear cut #2, but we have 3 guys that could be somewhere between slightly below average an a bit above average in Champ, PRob, and White. People too easily forget that we continued being an awesome pass defense after Greer got hurt midseason and White playing CB2. And he's expected to be our CB4 this season.

Barnwell's basic argument for and against every team or unit on just about every team is, "...(blank) could be really good, or really bad."
Specifically regarding the Saints, the guy actually said our secondary(OUR SECONDARY) could be really bad...or they could be really good, he says.
Also, he can't pronounce the letter "t"
Junior Galette is so slept on by people outside of New Orleans. Rarely even gets mentioned as player on the team we people are talking about the Saints.
One more "also." How long does Loomis have to prove he's not gonna let the cap stop the Saints from doing what they want to do before national guys finally catch up? Im really tired of hearing how screwed we are cap-wise, while we're keeping all of our most important players and signing pro bowlers every offseason. I used to be one of those guys bitching about our lack of cap room every offseason, but when you disregard the numbers and just look at the additions and subtractions over the years, there's really nothing to complain about. People say we're kicking the can down the road and it will eventually bite us, but Loomis has been on the job well over a decade now. I think he's figured shite out.
He's got Messi-level can kicking skills.

I don't think that dude pays attention. The Saints have one of the youngest and deepest front 7s in the league.
Hicks/Jordan/Gallette will be pro bowl caliber and have guys like Jenkins/Bunkley//Walker/Foster and Deadrick.
This ain't 2011-12

If Lewis goes down our secondary could get pretty bad in a hurry. We all need to pray to baby Jesus he stays healthy this season

That would be disgraceful for an "expert" to say.

Holy cluelessness, Batman.

So there was an actual expert there.

Hell the way Atlanta and Carolina have looked thus far I'm sticking to my original prediction that Tampa will finish second in the division with 9-10 wins.
If Atl or Car reach 8 wins I'll be surprised.

I don't think he is that far off base. LBs can't cover. Weak at 1 CB. Mystery who can cover a slot receiver.
Saints are truly proven good at 4-5 positions. Then there are 6-7 that's a mixed bag.

quote:Far from true. No matter who ends up the number 2 you still have Bailey/Robinson, White, and Vaccaro who are all more than adept at covering the slot.
Mystery who can cover a slot receiver.
We may or may not be weak at the second corner, and yes most of our LBs can't cover well(but are good at pass rushing and/or run defense depending on who we're talking about) so those are definitely areas of concern, but everywhere else is solid.
So you're talking about maybe 2-3 weak spots out of 11, depending on what play is being run and who is out there.
