The reverse-faux outrage by white folks towards someone that isn't 100% opposed to the notion of "Redskins" being offensive to Indians is just as bad as the self-righteous white guilt.

I've been hearing the word redskins since a child. It's part of my culture.
These idiots at WWL are out of touch.

Huh? Would you be OK with my statement if I just said "white people" or "Caucasians". Gosh, why are you so easily offended? "Folks" is just a word and has been used for generations. Must be the PC police. They got another one.

Leprechauns prefer to be called "Gnomes" too.

You are correct. I'm not even vaguely offended.

Restricting language? A guy decided not to use the word for his own reasons, perhaps white guilt. Who gives a shite? I don't recall Emperor Obama issuing a decree forbidding use of the word. Methinks that would an encroachment on one's constitutional rights.

I will stop using it because I'm a nice guy. Sorry I offended you, K-man.

I prefer Scots-Irish American. And I've got the rosy red cheeks to prove it.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this board but I think the name has got to go.
Names like Braves, Seminoles, Illini -- all fine in my book.
But Redskins? Sorry....but it is overtly racist and has no place in modern sports.
That's my opinion and I'm not alone in it. And honestly, it isn't about whether specific individuals are offended, but rather it is about what we communicate as "acceptable." I just don't find it acceptable for an NFL team to have an overtly racist name.

You are correct - there was not enough time to say Redskins, they had to go to commercial.

Seems like the origin of the term is contested, at the very least. We should err on the side of caution and get rid of the name.
quote:
"Redskin" is a term for Native Americans. Its connotations are a subject of debate,[1] although the term is defined in current dictionaries of American English as "usually offensive",[2] "disparaging",[3][4] "insulting",[5] and "taboo." [6] The term has almost disappeared from common usage since the 1960s, except as a name for sports teams, although the number of teams using the name has also been in steady decline. The origin of the term is also debated, some stating that it derives from the use of "red" color metaphor for race following European colonization of the Western Hemisphere, others state that it was originally applied only to certain tribes that used red pigments to paint their skin.

When anyone says whites or blacks, aren't they really saying white skins or black skins?
The color term refers to skin right?
It is virtually the same thing as saying redskins.
If you are reading this and you are offended by the term redskin, why aren't you offended by using white and black to describe people?
