Yea they lost 3 games that year, really.
But they were relevant. That isn't debatable.
They were relevant in fat Charlie's first couple years too. 2 bcs bowls, although blowouts. They were still talked about around the nation and voted highly by the polls. That means relevant. Notre Dame haters just won't admit it

The relevancy argument is silly. LSU went 45 years between titles. Were they irrelevant that whole time? Texas went 30+ years between titles. Ditto Ohio St. Florida didn't sniff a title for 50 years. Some of you guys are perhaps too young to realize that every major program goes through droughts. I guess I take the long view on that issue.
ND has been a football power for a very long time. They will always be relevant because they basically won a national title in every decade from the '20s until the late 90s. That's quite a run. Recently, they haven't quite found that "savior" coach. Every team faces that problem at one point or another.

ND has continuously gone to BCS bowls (inb4 the special privileges delusionists)
National Title appearance last year
8 players drafted into the league this year
top 25 routinely
hell, despite sucking for the majority of the past two decades, their resume isnt even *that* shabby.
also, it should be noted, that every single time ND and LSU go head-to-head for a HS recruit that ND lands the player (JUST LOL AT GETTING OUTRECRUITED BY AN IRRELEVANT FOOTBALL PROGRAM)

How did those BCS bowls go? What about the National Championship?
And then you add in a subjective poll in which they are always overrated because of previous history and shitty schedule.

no one is saying they are elite (elite programs win those games) - we are arguing "relevancy"
playing in BCS bowl games is a sign of relevance - delusionists would argue otherwise.

you're arguing against notre dame being elite. no one is saying that.
you can be relevant without being elite. if people are talking about you and voting you high, you are relevant.
if anything, the subjectivity of the polls makes the case for relevancy even stronger.

shitty schedule.
also, far from the truth.
ND is one of only two programs to NEVER schedule an FCS school - their schedule is routinely rated as one of the most difficult year-in and year-out.

I'm just saying there is a huge difference in media relevancy (ND clearly has) and actual on field relevancy.
Posted on 8/15/14 at 9:53 pm to More beer please
what does on the field relevancy even mean? saying they lack on the field relevancy just sounds like a way to say they aren't elite while still including the word relevant.

I definitely do. I assume you are referring to the lsu bama game. That game was like 12-0 late in the game and LSU has already beaten bama in Tuscaloosa. If you seriously try to compare that to the skullfricking Notre Dame took well I really don't know what to say.
So did LSU "not belong" in 2011? Ohio State in 06? Oklahoma in 04? I'll even be fair and include us, did we "not belong" against Nebraska in 95?

Which is moot when y'all routinely play multiple service academies.

Apparently it doesn't mean shite to ND as long as you're still a media darling

It's been pretty good the last 5 years at least.
2009: 24th
2010: 12th
2011: 15th
2012: 8th
2013: 28th
Edit: My bad, I thought you were talking about sos.

Comical? You said it not me...ND is not continuously in BCS bowls. Fact. Sure, maybe the last ten years is anomaly in their history, but facts are facts.
