Probably because the swooped in late the last few years and hijacked some of Liverpool's transfer targets

You know you are a shite club when Villa is hijacking your targets.

Arsenal probably has the fastest team, and when they are clicking can be very exciting to watch.

There's a lot more History, but I will give you a couple of the biggest clubs.

Manchester United has a really cool history with the Busby Babes, Munich Air Disaster, the 1999 treble, players like Bobby Charlton, George Best, Cristiano Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, etc. etc., and the most decorated club in the BPL.

Liverpool traditionally very successful club (second only to Utd.), Hillsborough Disaster, won the Treble in 1984, 2005 when they won the UEFA cup was the best game I have seen, and when their fans sing "You will Never Walk Alone" is one of the most recognizable chants/songs in sports.

Blackburn Rovers FC
Nottingham Forest FC
Leeds United AFC
Newcastle United

-Semi-underdog. So a team that is right on cusp of being really good, or a good club thats been down on it's luck lately, or something like that

If you mean have a legit shot of winning the title after not having won in a while or closest to winning than those who have: Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton

quote:

-Minimal threat of accusations of bandwagon jumping

Aston Villa, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Hull, Leicester, Newcastle, QPR, Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea, West Brom.. Those are only in the BPL you will be safe picking just about any team in the Championship besides Fulham.

At least 2 or 3 young soon to be superstars. I want to be the guy that gets to say "yea I watched _______ his first year at _______" with pride

I can only speak for Manchester United, but James Wilson, Januzaj (if he counts as unknown) are going to be really good.

If I were you I would just sit back and enjoy the season and at the very last day when all the teams are playing at the same time pick the one that you end up looking up the score on your phone. I say on your phone just in case you picked a team that's not fighting for the title, Europe, or relegation.
If you want to start out with a team I would tell you: QPR or Newcastle

I remember that time when ManU beat Tottenham.

Actually, I don't. Sorry. My memory only goes back about two years.

It's been posted a billion times on this board, but most of us are bandwagon fans (what real connection do we have to teams an ocean away?), and we all came to supporting our clubs in our own unique way.

I consider "bandwagon" fans ones who jump for wagon to wagon. If you hitch up with a title contender right away, that's fine to most of the people on here, as long as you stick with them.

Absolutely agree. And look, rooting for a team that you know is never going to win a title is hard. That does not happen in American sports. Even the worst teams sell hope in the future. In European soccer, they do not. The best you'll ever get is finishing fourth. That is a hard mental adjustment for an American sports fan.

I can't blame anyone for rooting for one of the five teams who have a shot at winning the EPL title.

And if you're a new fan looking for a team, I can't in good conscience recommend a team that is a real threat to be relegated. Don't choose QPR. All the hipsters who rooted for Wolves need a new team.

I agree that they will be flirting with relegation, but I think they stay up. But if he is going to pick a team until he finds one he likes, then Newcastle or lower team that will be in the relegation battle would be the most entertaining.

What are the best matchups

Not necessarily many great matchups this weekend. I would say just catch 3 games Saturday (kickoff times allow this), watch both games Sunday, and then watch Chelsea/Burnley on Monday if possible. Just watching the next couple months as a neutral is enjoyable. Less stress. Not much invested. You'll find who you like eventually. If it's a smaller team, great. If it ends up being United, Chelsea, etc. then great. Let people tell you that you bandwagoned. No biggie.

This is the only post you need to read out of this entire thread. It doesn't matter who you pick. Narrowing down choices beforehand will leave you with an empty fandom that means nothing. Just watch as many games as you can and the team will pick you. You'll know it when it happens.

Even if it is Manchester United.....

We should sticky this or use it as our board motto or something. You can also not choose a team and still enjoy the sport. I enjoy plenty of games where I have no rooting interest.

I would watch games if I were you... I'm a Manchester United guy. Had no idea who any teams were, but I saw a few David Beckham highlights in the late 90s using dial up and just stuck with ManU. There are plenty of respectable teams in the EPL. The whole league is fascinating. Promotion and regulated format.

Maurice recommends = just watch the teams. Queens Park Rangers are always looking for some fans. They have a unique stadium IMO. If you want to follow someone "young" = Deandre Yeldin of the Seattle Sounders signed with the Tottenham Spurs. Feel like you could watch both the Sounders and Spurs. Get acclimated with Yeldin & the Spurs then ride em when he gets on the team next season. Plus they have a cock as their mascot. You like cocks?

Just imagine if we had to wait on 30 second commercials during the dial up days. I may have been the guy posting this very question

I chose Wolves, but I resent being called a hipster. Honeslty, I do not really have a true team though. Real Madrid is my favorite team to watch and Ronaldo is my favorite non-American player.
