(informal poll) - how merciful will your death be in the upcoming nuclear apocalypse?

Use this map to find out!

I'm in mid-city New Orleans. I'm betting the port of New Orleans gets a half a megaton?

That puts my family in the "air blast radius" - not in the fireball - but basically all buildings get knocked down and lots of fires and dead people. So it will be painful but not painful as in months - more like hours or days at the most.

Dropped in the center of Houston (1000 kilotons) looks like I'm good. When I hear and see the explosion I better get my arse to the hill country though assuming I am at home. At work may be a bit more difficult.

I love this site thanks spidy.

stupid thread but great website.

Note: I will probably end up living and working the the rural parts of Louisiana so I think I would be far enough away from the blasts to survive the initial strikes, but the fall out would probably kill me.

than again, between baton rouge and new orleans are all of the chemical plants that may be a target of some of the small nukes.

I currently live in NOLA. I would likely die if it happened there.

This was the standard reference when I was learning nuclear weapons targeting. The Effects of Nuclear Weapons Check out Chapter XII, but the bottom line is that there are too many variables involved to say with any certainty what your likely outcome is. One thing is fairly certain if you live in New Orleans, your chances of underground shelter are very low.

I guess it depends on what size bomb they use and how many they get thru our star wars defense system. Reagan hooked us up!! Believe that!!! I live about mid way between Barksdale and the Little Rock Air Force base. Not to mention Lockhead, aerojet, and general dynamics have plants in Camden. Don't figure it's a primary or secondary target. But if bombs are left for shits and giggles, I figure they get it too. Not to mention two refineries within a few miles of my house.
