Focuses on DNA of white blood cells
Eliminate invasive procedures. Much earlier detection. Having tons of cancer in my family history, something like this excites me.

'We know that they are under stress when they are fighting cancer or other diseases, so I wondered whether anything measureable could be seen if we put them under further stress with UVA light.
'We found that people with cancer have DNA which is more easily damaged by ultraviolet light than other people.'
The conclusions were drawn after looking at the blood samples of 208 people - 94 were healthy members of university staff and students.
The other 114 were collected from patients referred to specialist clinics within Bradford Royal Infirmary prior to diagnosis and treatment.
UVA damage was observed in the form of pieces of DNA being pulled in an electric field towards the positive end of the field, causing a comet-like tail.

Well insurance companies will like this.

I'm not sure how much it would eliminate since it doesn't pinpoint the type or location(s). But it could knock down costs if it is a reliable way to determine if cancer exists. Doesn't exist = no expensive tests.

They will either find a way to profit or make it not happen all together

All the places that do the diagnostic testing to detect cancer will squash this. They make to much money to go to an easier, more convenient way.

my wife just had a blood test (spectrum maybe?) that we paid an extra $100 for because insurance doesn't cover it that told her 2 1/2 months into her pregnancy whether the baby had Downs, etc etc all kinds of issues and the GENDER.
its amazing what they can do with bloodwork these days.

I'm pretty sure that a routine test. It doesn't tell you for sure just gives you all kinds of odds like 1:400 downs, etc.

Right, that's why we never make any advancements, other interests keep them down.
This sounds like a rather non specific test that doesn't locate the cancer. That'll require scans still.

it sounds like it..first kid in 13 years for me..but apparently still 'too new' for insurance
it sounds like its about to be approved so i might be able to get a refund on the $100.
and yes, it definitely is still an 'odds game' but all the issues they said it tests for were like 99% accurate.

I think we could have done that as well, but passed. Insurance will cover the ultrasounds (which can detect some things), but not the bloodwork which can find much more.

Don't they already have dogs that can do this exact same thing?

Yes. It's tests for pretty serious stuff like spinal bifida and such.

I was the same way especially with my first. I wanted to be as prepared as possible. Then, she surprised us 8 weeks early. Go figure.
