Well then you won't fit into the self-aggrandizing section of PC gamers. I love RTS games, therefore I have a PC to play them on (because they aren't on consoles).

nah man
its not the PCs
its the mobile gaming on phones and tablets.
well, that and the fact that companies like EA and Activision are vampire squids sucking the life out of gaming by vomiting out games at a rapid rate with little care towards quality. There is only so much blatant reuse of the same 3 Call of Duty maps that people will take. Hell, look at what Activision did to Guitar Hero. After Red Octane published the first Activision took over and from 2006-2010 they published 13 different Hero games on home consoles (11 if you dont count DJ Hero, and 10 if you dont count Band Hero). Gee, I wonder why people got tired of Guitar Hero? Was it b/c everyone suddenly decided the game was no fun or was it b/c they massively over-saturated the market and lost consumer confidence b/c they were releasing what amounted to $60 track packs w/little other new content?
And they really wonder why so many people buy used games instead of lining up day 1 to buy something that is more and more likely to be a buggy mess that they are play testing via the consumer instead of paying to do it themselves? Aside form first party published Sony and Nintendo games is there even another company that consistently puts out quality stuff that you can essentially buy sight unseen and expect that it will be excellent?
IMO Steam sales aren't that big a deal. Everyone knows that if you just wait 6 months a console game its going to half in price if not more. shite, I just got Call of Duty Ghosts, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Assassins Creed 3 and 4, Zombie U, Need For Speed U, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge, and Epic Mickey 2 for a combined total of about $90 just by doing some sales searching on Amazon and at Toys R Us. Its really not that hard to find great deals on console games. You just have to put 5 minutes of effort into it.
Finally, the huge publishers move towards so called AAA big arse budget games is also part of what is killing them. Once you make a game with a massive budget you have to get huge sales or you are completely boned regardless of how good the game is. Ask Curt Schilling how smart it is to bank on your game selling 10 million copies to be profitable. I mean, when a new IP puts up 1.2 million in sales and its nowhere close to breaking even there is a real problem in the business model.
Do we even have to get into lost consumer confidence that Microsoft has been continually shooting itself in the foot with? The pathetically high rate of RROD that they f-ing knew was going to happen but pushed it out anyway fiasco w/the 360 was a bad joke. Forget about people getting pissed about the always online and no game sharing they wanted at first. The "KINECT IS THE FUTURE!!! Oh wait never mind, you don't need it. LOL sorry early adopters! Thanks for the extra $100!" double bird to the face they just pulled is only going to sour people more.
Basically... TLDR, corporate investment douchers who only give a shite about short term profits are the cause of console gaming's issues.

if you're a real gamer, you're agnostic when it comes to the platform

I think speculation was that the 360 and ps3 were very behind current PC's hardware wise that once the ps4 and xbone came out, PC would be no competition for the consoles.
In truth, the more consoles become like a PC, the less intriguing they will be to use. It's so much more fun for me to play games on my PC and a huge reason for that is the multitasking capability of a PC versus the consoles. I can watch a twitch stream on my 2nd monitor while waiting for matchmaking and if I didn't have a 2nd monitor, it would be a simple matter of pressing alt tab and I'm there. The process is too slow on consoles.
The xbox 360 controller compatibility with most windows games has almost completely rectified the issue of shitty ports with no proper keyboard/mouse support. The exception is games that use an invasive platform on PC like UPlay, but the thing is most of the AAA developers that use shitty platforms on PC don't have games worth playing anyway. Watchdogs? Yawn.
Let's not forget that consoles really aren't that profitable.
Wii U is the only console that has a unique experience. It's amazing how fast opinions change in this industry.
I agree with this, there just hasn't been a playstation or xbox game that jumped out to me as a must play that wasn't available on PC as well.

It's awesome being able to alt tab out of the game and post on TD while your co-op partner in BL2 needs to be revived

well if you are looking for a Steam sale you'll have to wait that long regardless.
point is, other than certain series from Nintendo, whatever platform you play on if you just wait a little bit that game you want will be much cheaper.
Huge discounts aren't some special thing you can only find on Steam.

Depends on the time of year. I was able to get Wolfenstein during the steam sale for $30 and that was only a month or so after release. Sales are becoming more common though. Sony has done a good job having more sales lately.

What's funny is the way Microsoft was going to do things with Xbox originally, they would have been able to do some pretty awesome sales, but the overreaction and outrage from players ruined that.

Well you should, I have both a 360 and a PS3.
And there hasn't been anything great on PS4 or One yet.
I will say The Last of Us was definitely the last great console game, I forgot about that one.

Ah. I misunderstood you. I thought you meant in the history of console exclusives, there has never been one that interested you enough to want to play it.

I'm the same way. I know I will eventually get a PS4 but I'm not buying it just for Infamous and the remaster of a game I have on PS3. I'm thinking 2015 price cut might be when I get it.

Why has this gen's launch been so lukewarm? Has every launch been this way and I just don't remember?
Posted on 7/29/14 at 1:40 pm to illuminatic
They are all pretty weak, people have short memories. Year 2 is traditionally big though

You do know there are thousands more games available on PC and not console. The only game worth a console on your list is RDR, even then RDR2 will be on pc along with GTA5, with Graphics that's consoles won't reach for a decade or more.
I mean consoles can barely reach 1080p, where PC is already on 1440p with 4K on the horizon. Imagine gaming on 4K, 4 Fricking K
