Yep, I'd lay down my life for my dog.
As to how well they swim, depends on the breed. Some aren't the swimmers you think they are.

god damn. i thought people on TD were crazy about their dogs but this is a new level. i could see making an emotional decision on the spot to risk your life to save the dog (trying to save the dog from drowning, for example), but to go right out and say you'd lay down your life for your dog is just plain nuts.

Why? Don't currently have a dog, but have in the past. I'd do a lot to save/protect, but there's no way I'm sacrificing myself.
