I think I will appreciate them more when I can see them in their entirety. It also has the unobtainable task of following LOTR. LOTR: The Fellowship is my favorite movie. I'm sure Star Wars fans feel the same way about the new prequels.

If you can seperate the two they have been good. I liked smaug much better than the first one

This is a valid point but I think it is unavoidable. Prequels have a tough row to hoe to begin with because of the very fact that they're set BEFORE the original movies. That in itself takes some of the suspense away. Add to that the fact that the originals were ultra popular and beloved and it sets a high bar.
I went into the first movie very eager and excited. But I found it disappointing. I never worked up the interest to watch the 2nd but will probably catch it On Demand or Red Box at some point. Doubt I'll see the 3rd in theatres.
I think that, as great as Jackson was on the first triology, I think that maybe the prequels might have benefited from someone else at the helm. The tone of the books is so different that a different approach with the movies, while risky, might have been for the better.
