So you have already started on the construction? I thought it was a little ways off...

We pushed up the timeline. Making progress, but rain has slowed us down.

Did you edit out the mountains too?

Yes. In its place is a big field.

Like that layout. What's that gonna cost?
Posted on 7/25/14 at 3:38 pm to rednecksouthpaw
$42K excluding decking. $49K with decking. I am also erecting an outdoor kitchen. Estimated cost is $20K or what I am hoping to spend. Still ironing out the details.

It's really not hard.
Lol. No it's not, but the job won't be bonded or insured therefore if something goes bad 2 years later, it's a big time loss.

Thanks. Can't wait to see the finished product

Same here. Yard is a complete mess along with my driveway. All in the name of progress.

it's a pool, things will require maintenance for the life of the pool, if you can build it, you can fix it, ever tried to call back some of these little subs or fly by nights? good luck with that

Title says it all. Will be an owner build gunite. First step is to get the plans drawn.
troublefreepool.com is a great resource for doing your own build. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm not a builder but I'm in the industry.

So effin what? Most of 'em disappear anyway.
I've paid for two pools and am completely unimpressed with both pool contractors. The "engineering" is as simple as pie, I guess that's why so many jack legs build pools.
The trick to a pool is good soils to start with and an excellent backhoe operator. Take a look at the subs who show up on pools; it's not that hard.
If I build another one, I'll pay for plans and absolutely sub the rest out. I have no doubt the end-product would be excellent.

Pretty sure that name hasn't been taken in Louisiana.

You missed the part about me saying bonded

and you missed the part about dealing with small contractors like this, they typically are hand to mouth, not in business very long, and even if they are, are usually spread so thin, that the only way to get them back out for warranty or "bonded" work, would be at gun point, the term bonded is misused, misinterpreted, and often just plain lied about, it could be something as simple as having liability ins. for themselves in case you get hurt on their equipment, yep, they're bonded, but it doesn't mean squat to you
ETA: bonding on a construction job typically just means that if something catastrophic happens to the contractor during the project, insurance will pay for a comparable contractor to complete the job
ETA: and bonding for sizable jobs is done job per job and costs a percentage of the total cost of the job, meaning a new policy for each job, not a blanket policy covering all jobs, this tidbit is one of the separators of the big boys versus the fly by nights

Bonded don't mean jack.
I can get bonded in 15 minutes.
Your just worried about me and 7 taking over the whole (get it?) pool bidness.
