Patterson is listed as a prostyle QB....he ran a 4.63 today. I'd prefer a pass first QB with wheels anyday I think that gives him such a higher ceiling. It's going to be fun these next 2 years seeing how this plays out!
That's both of them plus McMillan, plus Harris and Jennings. If you watch both of their tapes, Patterson runs much more than Franks, and Franks ran about 3 times in his whole video.
I want both but Franks arm strength, height, and mobility makes him much more impressive from a physical standpoint. Either wouldn't start until 2017-18 anyway so developing things like throwing motion over the next 3-4 years is a lot easier than growing four inches and turning a good arm into a cannon.
These guys still have junior and senior years to improve before they even step on campus.
Outside of Drake Davis, he is the recruit I'm most excited about for 2016.
ETA: If we happen to get both, does it matter if one decides to leave after a year or so? If we don't get both of them, we will still take another instate QB for 2016.

Seems to me that both these kids want to learn under Cam. Hard to believe LSU has a chance at landing two top 100 kids in the same class, much less two of the top pro style and dual threat qbs. I think they realize the opportunity at LSU under Cam to work with him and a pro style offense.

Drake Davis could be top 10 overall in country.

These days most elite recruits want to play early. That is not always the case. Some see more stock value in developing under the likes of (insert one of many LSU coaches names here). Different kids look for different things.

Did you watch his highlight video? The guy is a freak! Insane speed and he's 6'4 210lbs 40"+ vertical and has power like a running back. He's like Julio Jones/Vernon Davis type of gifted. If he's not the #1 receiver by February 2016, recruiting guys are smoking crack.

I did, that's why I said I think he will be a top 10 overall recruit.

I think it's an advantage having both guys, Shea and Franks, be as good as they are. They both have confidence and believe they are good enough to be QB1.

Yeah you are right. I was driving and wasn't sure what exact day he would be announcing. Thanks.
Texting while driving. Come on man!

Great day at LSU today. I know it's stupid but you could really see some tension between Patterson and Franks...both going back and forth competing. I'm biased but I've seen both in person several times and would still give the edge to Patterson. Everyone keeps saying franks has a "higher ceiling" but I don't know if I would agree. Patterson is listed as a prostyle QB....he ran a 4.63 today. I'd prefer a pass first QB with wheels anyday I think that gives him such a higher ceiling. You won't have to wait 2 years...Franks will go elsewhere.

I agree with this. Generally, I'm not a fan of taking more than one QB in a class because, paradoxically, more often than not it leads to depth problems down the road, but in our current situation, we need the bodies. I don't know if Franks will stay--hope he does--if Patterson commits, but if doesn't we will continue recruiting.

Love to see us all over the younger guys
Few years ago we used to always feel like we were late to the party.

Yep, he might see a bump. The only drawback is his speed which is around the 4.6 range, but when you're 6'5 215 with a decent vertical, physical and glue for hands...you're a plain matchup problem.

I kind of feel like he's flying under the radar for our '15 class. Really excited to see the match-up problems he creates when he gets to campus.

Could he play basketball too?
I see he played for Red Storm with Coach Pixley who was also his coach at Dunham.
And Red Storm is a Nike team in LA that competes nationally.
Dude is a freak tho

He may not be done growing. Isn't Lester about 6'8?
