James Garner, the charming leading man from Oklahoma who made it look easy on NBC's The Rockford Files and in films opposite Doris Day, Julie Andrews and Sally Field during more than a half-century in show business, has died. He was 86.

My all time favorite TV actor.
Had not one but two iconic characters: Maverick and Jim Rockford
If ever an actor was born to play a role, it was Garner and Rockford.
He lived a long, full life. RIP.

Gunshy
My favorite Maverick episode. We old guys liked Gunsmoke and the first 20 seconds of this Maverick still cracks me up.

One of my favorite all around actors.
When I was growing up, I couldn't wait for Maverick each week (I was always a little let down those alternating weeks when it was Jack Kelly playing Bret' brother, Bart)
Enjoyed the Rockford Files a lot, too, when I was older.
Garner did sardonic humor as well as anybody.
He also had some good films:
Americanization of Emily
The Wheeler Dealers
Support Your Local Sheriff
Support Your Local Gunfighter
Twilight (with Paul Newman and Gene Hackman)
Etc.

Garner's real wife, Lois, survives him. They dated for two weeks and were married for 56 years.

My all time favorite TV actor.
Loved Rockfish. Next to Columbo, my favorite single television character.

I liked him in whatever he was in. He just had it.
And I'm not trying to be funny, but I seriously thought he passed away a few years ago.

Well, this is a sad day. Garner always seemed like a good man and he was obviously a great actor He was still acting consistently up until a few years ago.

Easily one of my favorite actors of all time. Maverick was a great TV show and the Maverick movie Garner did with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster was hilarious and one of my favorite movies. RIP /salute
