RollTide1987 you are correct, that historian is saying there was never a list, then puts up facts already known about Oscar.
The list was real and had corrections, I have seen 2 orginals of the list and both were attested to by those that were there.
He leaves out Oscar going to Auschwitz to get the women and children back, as that had be trained to Auschwitz by mistake.
Yes all historians already know Oscar was a spy before the war and was the person that got hold of the Polish Army uniforms for the fake attack on the radio station in 1939.
But Oscar like most Germans are not the same after 4+ years of a hard war.
If you read anything on Oscar, the fact stands out he was a womanizer and that is shown somewhat in the movie. After the war he moves to South America with his wife and girlfriend.
I have about 4-5 books on Oscar and his factory, some written by the workers, the historian of that book is like many modern writers using selective fact gathering and throwing out the major facts to fit his needs.
My Auschwitz books number over 20 and I collect very rare books on the Auschwitz. One book has information on the train and Oscar coming to the camp.
Oscar like the movie showed was in for questioning by the Gestapo about the Jewish girl he kissed.

I don't think gladiator ever claimed to be anything but historical fiction.
Maximus however, did remind me a lot of Trajan

Saw the Great Escape on military channel with some of the veterans that were in the camp. They felt the movie stuck to how it really went down very accurately, until the very end.
When McQueen is captured and returned to the camp, the soundtrack starts the same playful theme that was played earlier in the movie whenever he was sent to the cooler. One of the prisoners throws McQueen his baseball, and its all back to normal.
Those vets were PISSED at the attempted happy ending.
After the results of who was killed trying to escape were read, with no casualties, it was never pleasant ever again with the Germans and those men.

I just want to be sure we are clear on this because there has been some confusion on this issue.
Are you telling me....Pele didn't help Rocky escape from a German POW camp?

I for one am relieved to see that 300 didn't make the list. I can sleep easy now, knowing that the 300 Spartans on that day, truly shouted for entire conversations, eschewed functional honor in favor of homoerotic uniforms that showed off their abs, and jumped headlong into the persian army led by Dennis Rodman while doing karate moves--often in slow motion.
Thanks for yanking that scab off, brah.
You know we were this close [holds fingers very close together] to getting a Gates of Fire (Pressfield's novel) film about Thermopylae, Michael Mann was going to direct, Clooney and Willis were going to star as the leads, although they were trying to figure out who should play Xerxes and who Leonidas.
And it fell through - Mann decided to make the Miami Vice movie.

"Gladiator"
What is surprising about this historically inaccurate movie is that a historian helped work on it. In the movie, the character Maximus is fictional and several of the battles never even took place.
Wait, people think Gladiator is a true story?
The frick is wrong with people? They don't even claim it to be a true story.

Perfect storm should be on that list, we all know them dumbasses didn't catch shite out there.

"Battle of the Bulge"
This movie, set in WWII, features an encounter between Allied forces and Germans during the Invasion of Normandy. Of course, the Allies were the victors, but the movie itself was full of inaccuracies and forgotten details.
This movie is horrible in accuracy but it was in the Ardennes far from Normandy. Pick your worst part
-climatic tank battle fought in a desert
-Germans losing just because they ran out of fuel
-Tellu Savalas M-24 surviving his Chaffee getting its turret cut off and then driving it around etc etc etc
Also a film like Gladiator while full of shite historically does a decent job of catching the "era" of the late Roman Empire

And I would venture a guess that the viewers of these movies don't have one frick to give. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)
