What is the O-T's "go to" shoe, for alleviating chronic back pain?

There is no such magic shoe

you dont need shoes, you need some chronic.

Wow, a serious question/comment on the first page? I wasn't really expecting that. Old football injuries, rough and rowdy past, several car wrecks, etc. 6'1" 215. I could be in better shape but I'm not overweight.

Kangaroos. Keep norcos or oxycontins in pocket.

You should be closer to 200, maybe a few pounds under.

What is the specific issue? Joint? Muscle? Nerve? I have back issues too and there is no one shoe that helps. I do find that I can't wear those minimalist shoes with no cushioning. I need a fairly strong support in the heel. Try reputable brands. Don't wear Under Armour shoes ever.

go to a PT you overweight SOB, tell them you want to get some shoes. Orthotics, therapy, lose some fricking weight will all help

Dr's can't tell me, I can't tell you. Muscle, mostly. I have tried almost everything else. I don't like taking medications but I'll take a muscle relaxer(Amrix) sometimes at night just so I can sleep. I haven't found one of those that works very well either. I even went to a nuerologsit for it and came out diagnosed with borderline Carpal tunnel syndrome. I don't have a lot of faith in the Dr's, I have seen. I just thought someone on here could recommend something to try. My last resort would be a chiropractor and I have mixed feelings on that.

I mean... what are you doing during the course of a day? Line of work?

Go to a store like Varsity Sports and have them fit you for a good pair of shoes. Can make all the difference in the world having the correct pair.

Consultant in the oilfield. 14/14. Spend most of my days sitting at a desk. I get up every hour and walk around and get out on location from time to time. I stay pretty active at home with my family. It's chronic pain that I have dealt with for a very long time but the older I get, the more troublesome it becomes.

I was going to suggest Rockports and fresh changes of thick cotton socks until I realized that you're pretty sedentary at your job whereas I'm on my feet all day at work. It's interesting that you're concentrating your efforts on shoes in light of your work environment.
Have you tried some kind of activity that requires stretching like yoga, martial arts, etc?

There's a very good chance it's not muscular as you think, but a structural issue with a lumbar disc or discs. You should get a referral from your primary doc to see some type of orthopedic surgeon/back specialist who will do an MRI and see what's going on inside.
