Article w. video- he was suspended and then resigned
This shooting has been big news up here especially since the perps wife said he should have killed more cops. Watch the video.
The legitimacy of his statement is obviously up for debate. But the liberal commenters are pissing me off.
It's evident that this here news anchor is just another racist who can't even begin to understand black males like the average white liberal can!

In his report on Sunday, Bergin spoke of the "anti-cop mentality that has so contaminated America's inner cities," claiming that its underlying cause was thanks to"young black men growing up without fathers." He added, "Unfortunately, no one in the news media has the courage to touch that subject."

Wow, that was pretty ballsy of him.
I don't disagree, but I'm not sure he's in the position to offer his sociological commentary.
By position, I mean literally his position. I don't often see news anchors offer their thoughts like that. Is that taboo, or something that they are given some freedom on?
I don't watch TV news much...

Nothing has hurt society more than the decline of two parent families.
Feminism and welfare expansion are largely to blame.

With damn near 70% of black children being raised in single parent homes, Id say something is wrong.

Reminds me of the Bill Mahr show where he quoted Michelle Obama when she talked about black kids having the wrong role models (rappers, etc.) but he worded it so that the guests assumed it was Mitt Romney (IIRC) that said it. Of course the black guest was outraged until he found out it was MO. He then proceeded to laugh, agree with her statement and put forth the notion that only certain people can criticize the black community.

He's right in that it is a problem.
I'd say the cop killing is more a problem of the pervasive "frick the police!" sentiment in the black community.
Also, IIRC, this is the case where the cop killer's wife or mother is bitching about all the sympathy for the slain officer and how no one is thinking about their loss.

I guess Bill Cosby isn't one of those people, despite being a trained educator.

To be fair, this sentiment is growing among all racial and economic groups.

I think this problem goes hand-in-hand with the single parent household issue.

True. But every other media talking head gives their own social commentary.

Even black "leaders" have said the same thing.

Obviously it is the gun's fault.

It goes beyond not having a father. Another contributing factor is the way black single moms raise their kids, stressing that 'ya gotta take care yo bidness.' Which means "Violence solves everything."

That "impromptu street memorial" with candles and Hennessey bottle.

I'd say the war on poverty and the war on drugs are largely to blame.

All three honestly. The "War On Drugs" was started with good intentions IMO, but has been a total fricking disaster. And the fact that our government continues to fight that "war" show's how little they care about what works and what doesn't.
That said, the decline started when the welfare act was introduced. That's been a disaster as well. But you can't fix it without being called a racist.

Related - The New Jersey branches of the Bloods have come out and said they plan to kill more Jersey City cops in vengeance for their member who was gunned down after executing a rookie cop.
The exact threat was that they were going to keep killing cops until the National Guard was called out.
LINK
I don't think this will end the way they think it will.
