To hell with the trade, sign Love in 2015 and keep Wiggins!

Am I taking crazy pills? All reports are that Love would sign with the Cavaliers next season, so why trade away assets now when it is unlikely that that the Cavs are winning it all next year?
They are only committed to LeBron and Irving next year, and have team options for Bennet and Waiters at 5.8 and 5.1 respectively, along with a qualifying offer for Tristan Thompson at 7.1. Wiggins will also take up roughly 5 when he signs.
Irving and LeBron will gobble up $43M, but the cap will likely be north of $68M for 2015-2016. They are talking about trading Waiters and Bennet now, so why not decline their options and go after Love?
The only downside is that you could miss out on Love, but that could happen regardless. Trading for him now would give you the chance to negotiate now before FA, and you could use Bird Rights along with a 5-yr deal, but is Love worth a 5-yr max deal? No.
Bottom line is that you don't need to give up Wiggins now when the Timberwolves are the team who may end up with nothing if Love walks. IMO, the Cavs have most of the chips.
ETA - I should clarify - I don't think Love is worth the max when you also are giving up Wiggins. I'd take Wiggins for under $7M for the next 4 years over having $63M tied up in LeBron, Irving, and Love. If I keep Wiggins I've $50M tied up in LeBron, Irving, and Wiggins. That cap room can get a nice player next year as well.
Again, it's not whether Love is worth the max, it's whether Love is worth the max plus Wiggins plus another 1st rounder.

Really I've never heard this? I've seen that he was 'intrigued' by the Cavs but I can't see him going anywhere but LA tbh.

Kevin Love isn't going to Cleveland as a free agent.

Where do you play wiggins? He is a 3.

Really? Wow. He is 25 and one of the best PF's in the league. Love >>> Bosh.

I was with you until that statement. Love is absolutely worth a max deal.

This is what I said in the FA thread
quote:
Love has the stroke here. All he has to say is I am not signing an extension with anyone but Cleveland and minny's leverage is gone.
Flip keeps him, love signs with Cleveland next summer outright
Flip keeps him, does sign and trade with Cleveland gets little back
Flip trades him somewhere besides Cleveland, nobody gives him a good deal because love says I am signing with Cleveland as a UFA
Flip trades him to Cleveland now, why give up wiggins? You don't have to because love's trade value has fallen through the floor
Flip trades him to GS, love refuses to sign extension, why give him klay?
Flip held on to love about two weeks too long

Definitely keep Wiggins until at least the All-Star break. There's a reason this kid went #1 overall. His ceiling as an overall player is higher than Kevin Love's IMO. It's just a matter of how long it takes to get him there. Atomesphere-wise, Cleveland is the best possible situation for him.
Cavs aren't winning a championship next year anyway. Wiggins is long, runs like a gazelle, and loves to play D. It's rare that a draft pick of his caliber gets to play next to a HOFer right out of college. Gotta see it through for now, see if they can get Minnesota to blink.

I'd take Love in a heartbeat, but how much of a loss of production will he have on the Cavs team with two other scorers?

I would have no problems trading Wiggins for love.
You have Lebron, one of the NBA's all time greatest players, in his prime. I'm not wasting any of those years on the potential of a one and done unfinished product like Wiggins. Maybe he will be really good, but maybe he will be a bust.
The Cavs aren't preparing for 3-4 years from now. They have Lebron right now and are trying to win right now.
Kevin Love is a superstar in his prime and has a skill set that fits perfectly with Lebron's. Two superstars in their prime > one superstar and a 19 year old with potential.
I wouldn't gut the roster, but for Wiggins, Bennett and a 1st? Mr. Love come on down!

You add Wiggins and 8 cap holds and you're at $52m. With just those 3 guys they already don't have enough to offer him a max unless it is a sign and trade.

If love is available in 2015, he will be a Knick.
