Metal Gear Solid 2

Only if you didn't play Guns of the Patriots.

If you played GotP, the ending in Sons of Liberty made sense.

The end of MGS4 still annoys me.

How so? There are LITERALLY no loose ends in the story.

The Patriots are dead, both literally and figuratively.

Meryl gets married and reconciles with her father.

Jack reunites with Rose and John (he takes the job with Maverick in MGR to support his family)

Snake has less than a year to live, quits smoking, and gets to live as a normal man for once, with Hal Emmerich as his personal biographer. Oh, and he is finally released from the cycle by Big Boss himself.

The only one who doesn't get their "happily ever after" is Mei Ling, but she's a dumbass anyway.

In Metal Gear Rising, it also clears up that Sunny is now Hal's adopted daughter and owns her own aeronautics company. Not only that, but George is the little boy she meets at Meryl's wedding.

1. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

The ending was just terrible. I'll post what it was if y'all want to know, but I know many people haven't played it.

2. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Fighting the Joker as a Bane-like monster was a horrible idea and completely against the character's personality.

3. Mass Effect 3

Huge "frick you" to the players.

Definitely the first BioShark. So, you go underwater, presumably to find the BioShark, and you fight all the zombies and listen to Cole Porter. Then you follow all the clues and get to the end, and you never even see (much less fight) the BioShark.

I'm thinking about trying BioShark 2 or BioShark: Infinite to see if I can get a look at this monster!

You have to look at MGS2 as a single entity. If you have to play a game that came out years after its predecessor to understand the ending, then it's simply bad storytelling.

I miss NES endings where all you got was a black screen with some Engrish on it.

at least I didn't spend hours and multiple playthroughs to get this stupid screen or anything....

Metal Gear Solid's entire plot is an overwrought mess.

I enjoy the games, but the plot sucks.

there. I said it.

I am still going to defend Mass Effect 3's ending.

All of the Metal Gear Solid games had open endings:

Twin Snakes - Looks like Snake rides off into the sunset...until you find out that the POTUS is the third Snake and Ocelot played everyone.

Sons of Liberty - Raiden cuts ties with his past and is officially on board with Snake and Otacon. Philanthropy finds the Patriots only to discover the founding members are all dead.

Snake Eater - Ocelot plays everyone as usual. Discusses how to recruit Big Boss.

Portable Ops - Ocelot gets the entire Legacy, teams up with "Cypher" (Zero) Boss founds "Militaire San Frontieres"

Peace Walker - Big Boss establishes Mother Base. Comes to terms with the Boss' death. Start of Outer Heaven.

Guns of the Patriots - The only game in the series without an open ended finale. All loose ends are tied up.

Rising Revengeance - Raiden goes off to hunt down the remnants of World Marshal after killing Senator Armstrong.

A lot of these games screw up endings by just trying to do too much.

Eta: this includes uncharted 2

Sometimes it's storytelling but often it is the expectation of some epic boss fight.

Any Metroid game. I didn't see one past Prime, but as great as those games were, the endings were extremely meh.

You might as well complain about the ending to Mario games. In the end, Samus is going to end up blowing the shite out of a planet and then taking her helmet off, same as Mario saving the princess.

Yeah, that was bad. They made up for it with City though. That was an awesome ending.

I understand Prime 2 and 3, but Prime 1

That game ended fighting Mecha Ridley, a horde of phazon infested enemies and then the damn Metroid Prime herself. Regardless of the cutscene end, the battles alone provide the game with a perfect ending.

I know it's your opinion but your opinion sucks
