we bid for william carvalho :/ (an out of left field DM!)
I actually like this. I watched him closely in the WC. He doesn't have an expansive passing range but he rarely does something wrong with the ball. He's also massive. I honestly don't mind this as long as we get him for a good price.

And now I see that we bid 24 mil for him. We can't get Schneiderlin for 24? It seems like we are bidding wildly. Truth be told Carvalho is way younger, and might fit into the physicality of the PL really well, so it might not be a bad by at that price, although I wouldn't want to go to 30 on him. Carvalho is massive, both in height and weight and would be a midfielder unlike any we've had.

He's gunna go AMERICA all over everybody's asses.

sporting saying he has a 45m buy out. LOL.
I watched the 2nd half, really liked olsson and chuba. Thought diaby looked good, dont think he missed a pass and def had good movement without the ball. I hope he can stay healthy, he really is a skilled player.

I don't think we're bidding wildly. We've (possibly) bid on khedira and been given too high a wage request (though I've seen a fairly convincing argument that khedira or real were leaking that info and that there may have been no concrete interest or negotiations) . Regardless, no semi-reputable source has said we're interested in MS. This is the first fairly concrete source saying we have made a bid on someone. Perhaps he's been targeting William this whole time.
As for William himself, my only real concern is his speed. He looked really slow versus the US. I'd have to study him more to know if that's a huge hindrance to his overall game.

It would make sense. We don't need a fast player to cover for Mertesacker. We need a good positional player. Since it seems TV5 is off, Carvalho might be the better option all things considered. Khedira would be perfect in a 2 man midfield where both players share the attacking and defending workload, but since we have to compensate for Mertesacker, a relatively static holding midfielder makes sense.

Wasn't Arteta's lack of speed, despite his positional sense, a problem for us last season? How would this guy be an upgrade if he's that similar?

Not as big a problem as some made it out to be. The matches we got killed, it was largely out wide and then devolved when we got down and forced things.
He is a lot stronger than Arteta. Would add a presence in our midfield we haven't had in awhile. I'm warming up a bit too this idea. 20+m and huge salary on a 27yo that replicates the talent of our best player last season or 25m-37m (the latter being his clause fee, which I wouldn't pay) and a smaller wage for a younger player and better fit...the potential price would worry me but I'm growing to the idea of the player and fit.

Basically the problem was that sometimes we played so wide open that it left Arteta exposed, as he didn't have the ability to cover the ground necessary to hold the midfield by himself. Basically we had one player in Koscielny that could cover ground in a high line. And still played a high line anyway. The matches where we played a deep line we usually won.

That Liverpool game was downright embarrassing.

I actually think being outplayed by Everton was worse. In both the Chelsea and Liverpool games, we gave up really early goals, and then conceded more as we pushed up to try to respond immediately. Conceding more goals was no surprise. It was either that or score goals ourselves. Against Everton, they went up early and then it looked like we had no ideas offensively. That was more frustrating for me. The embarrassment of the Liverpool game was mitigated by beating them the next week in the FA Cup, and the Chelsea game embarrassment was mitigated by the fact we played with ten men for most of the game.

Looks like Sporting wants an arm and a leg for him.
I'm impressed with his highlights. He's a real enforcer and he's only 22. He'd be a linchpin and an anchor at DM.

Anyone know where I can find some decent Arsenal desktop wallpapers? Everything I find has too much CG lightning or weird colors, or it makes it seem like I have a fetish for one particular player.

WC can also cover at CB. I like it better than SK, but I got a text earlier from a buddy saying we were announcing Khedira tomorrow?
@DeadlineDayLive: Sami Khedira will be confirmed as an Arsenal player tomorrow after agreeing a fee of €24m with Real Madrid. (Source: Los Blancos)

Also, Balotelli rumors heating up.
@DeadlineDayLive: Arsenal are close to confirming a deal for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli. (Source: @andremarinpuig)
That guy has 275K Twitter followers, who knows...
ETA: My guess is we announce Ospina tomorrow and are still hunting for CB//DM and maybe CF

No idea. Consider everything BS until it's on Arsenals site.
In other BS, we're in for Iker Casillas

Silly season is so much fun.

They're saying £15.8. Would be an incredible price for arsenal for a player with that potential.
