Imagine if someone said this about keeping minorities out of white neighborhoods.

Thats funny because that's all I hear about from people who live in Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills.

The people there go to high profile mayor's conventions and recommend keeping blacks out by blocking permits and raising taxes?

Because only white people are wealthy.
At least in NYC and SF, gentrification looks very diverse. And the problems caused by gentrification aren't about race, they're about poor people being displaced from where they've lived for decades, and about the neighborhood losing its character. There's a real loss.
With that said, I believe that gentrification is a natural economic process and I don't think it should be stopped. Gentrification occurs when people act freely in their own interests (people buying cheaper real estate and fixing it up). There's obviously nothing inherently wrong with that, even if it indirectly makes life harder for someone who's lived in the neighborhood much longer.

In B4 Tigah in the ATL says something about how hard it is to be white.
Let's dispel any quaint thoughts about equality , etc. government discrimination is ok in this country, so long as it is directed toward white people.

I think it's fair to say that the context of these quotes are about race. It was as the Essence festival afterall.

Agreed.

Gentrification
Gentry refers specifically to a "you-didn't-build-that" class of people supposedly gifted by position and birth.
Calling community reclamation "gentrification" is demonstrable of the pathetic nature of current politicized dialog.

And at no point in time did someone say "hey, let's stop trashing our neighborhoods, driving down real estate prices, and giving people an incentive to snatch it up and gentrify it."

Gentrification refers to what happens when an old, relatively poor neighborhood becomes popular again with an influx of new, wealthier residents. The higher property values that result can lead to higher rents or property taxes and drive longtime residents out of places they and their families may have lived in for decades.
Yeah that's just tuurible.
How dare they improve the community.

Odds this same guy supports Section 8 and mixed income housing?

Gentrification can occur without a significant shift in racial make-up. Its happening in my neighborhood right now.

Mid-city by Delgado.
Put it this way we wouldn't have been able to afford to live in this neighborhood if we had bought today.

So now your house is worth more. What's wrong with that?

That's a good thing, that Mid City corridor is a great area. Higher real estate value = less crime = better place to live and raise a family.
