Campaign for Mississippi."
This book was published in 1988, so it's not new. But damn this is one excellent book.
I bought a used hardback copy on Amazon for under $10. I think it might be available for free on the Kindle Reading App.
Anyway, while we're remembering the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer this year, do yourself and favor and get this book.
For someone like me who spends a good part of each working day helping people to try to let go of the past and move forward, this book was a good reminder that some things must never be forgotten.

I just downloaded it.
My dad was in high school when desegregation (or integration) started. He doesn't talk about it much, but he says that it was bad. I can't imagine living during those times. Truly a pathetic time in our country's history.

Great thread. It's fitting that you would start it on the 50th anniversary of the day LBJ signed the CRA into law.

I'm to the point where "the klansmen received sentences of up to 10 years" and I'm already pissed off.
10 years? That's it?
10 years? That's it?

I'll definitely put it on my list to read.
Thanks L.A.

It was a remarkable time of courage, conscience, and strife in US history. Anyone who lived through those times should chime in. Please add some perspective to the "sky is falling" sentiment of the blogosphere. We Americans have come a long way against fairly tall odds.

Meh. I get tired of hearing about this topic over and over.

My old history professor in college went to high school in Meridian with one of the murderers. He said that the guy was definitely the type to beat you up and steal your lunch money.

On a positive note, this thread started out well L.A. From page two on... well, typical Poliboard.
Just downloaded the book on my Kindle app. Looking forward to enjoying it this coming weekend.
